Some may call me biasd on this one but I have to go for MonsterMasch. He is the best in the game at what he does.
His play only suits certain teams depending on the other players at the club and the formation being used.

I understand the importance of the role but i'm not really keen on watching that type of player tbh. Wouldn't pay money to watch him.

I love Masch and the job he does but I'd go for Essien everytime.

Masch is only good if you're a counter-attacking team and have the other specialist players to accomodate him such as Xabi and Stevie G, whereas Essien has by far the better all round game. He has one hell of an engine, can push the team forward, decent passer and a not to shabby shooter (altho could be better)

All in all would choose Essien over Masch but would love to see both in the same team.

True but that type of player just doesn't interest me. :p

I've actually been impressed that Essien has added a few goals to his game. He's scored some corkers so far for Chelsea.

He scored quite a few after he came back from injury last season. Important ones as well...

There was another long range effort that was one of his first goals I think.

At least two in the Champions League. I remember him bundling the ball in the back of the net and the Barcelona goal of course.

One less than Alonso, not too shabby is it to say he's not a goalscoring midfielder and was injured for over half of the season.

i repeat 11 league goals in over 100 league goals. he is a cm so gets more forward unlike masch/alonso who are dm and mainly sit and rarely get in the box

he was efo a CM when they had ballack lampard and maluda in front of him. the only debate for masch is from liverpool fans yet for essien its from united(el included) arsenal and chelsea fans.

as with the goal bit, i think the majority of those 11 goals were winning goals plus when u had lampard scoring 20+ and drogba 30 that one season did he need to score any?? liverpool were struggling for goals at times this season and alonso and mascherano contributed 4 in the league and 5 in all competitions, and we get people saying the united CM dont score enough goals. also with your goals stats alonso has 15 in 143 games for liverpool and i know hes taken a few penalties and takes free kicks. neither r in the team to add goals IMO

but both of xabi and masch never go into the opposition box...they start very deep and go as far as like 10 yards outside of the oppisition box....so unless they score 30 yard shots they wont score many

essien plays more advanced and goes forward more. his end product is poor

as i said in the last post, hes not really their to score goals as chelsea have 4 other players to score goals, (drogba, lampard and the 2 wingers). i think all of his goals have been either to equalize or win a game(including scoring first when chelsea in by more than 1)

Imo you're simply highlighting how much better essien is than alonso and mascherano. The fact that he can push the team forward and has a very very excellent engine is what makes him unique.
