the deloitte (?) report showed that virtually every club isn't spending within their means.
But didnt the Deloitte report also show Chelsea as debt free??????

Glazier/United (for example) owe the debt to the banks, Chelsea owes the debt to the owner.

Is he leaving Chelsea? We're now saying it's 60-40 he'll be at Manchester City at the start of the season...

There's a huge amount of words on John Terry in the morning papers. Almost as much as on England's latest Dunkirk, in fact.

There isn't a consensus view on what exactly is happening, but Transfer Gossip is now leaning towards the possibility of Terry joining Manchester City ahead of him staying at Chelsea.

What's pretty much agreed in the papers is that Terry met with Roman Abramovich on Saturday for around two hours.

According to The Daily Mail, it was 'made clear' to Terry that Chelsea 'will not increase his wages to ward off interest from Manchester City' but 'They will meet again today as Chelsea make a last ditch attempt to persuade Terry that his future remains at Stamford Bridge'.

The Independent disagrees with the detail, but the gist is roughly the same: 'Chelsea will now try to make the player an offer that will placate him - a rise on his £135,000-a-week and a longer contract than his current three years - in the hope that he will sign, although there are no guarantees. The meeting on Saturday was understood to be frosty with Terry telling Abramovich that he wanted the club's permission to talk to City - essentially signalling his desire to leave. Abramovich refused to yield.'

The Indy's report then continues by coming close to unequivocally stating that Terry wants out:

'While Terry realises that it is a difficult situation for Chelsea - they have rejected one offer of £30m from City - he now wants the chance to join a club who have set their stall out as Premier League contenders. He feels that the 17 years he has given the club as schoolboy and professional is sufficient service and that he should at least be allowed to speak to City directly.'

The Times doesn't quite go as far, but nonetheless the impression given is that Terry will be leaving. According to them, 'City remain confident that Terry will be their player before the new Premier League season begins' and 'City's decision on Friday to withdraw an offer for Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o was believed to be partly motivated by their belief that Terry will go through with his exit from Chelsea.'

So what happens now?

The Mail says that everything will be decided at today's meeting. 'If Abramovich fails to convince Terry today of Chelsea's continued ambition, they could face a previously unthinkable parting of the ways,' it declares.

The Indy also describes Terry as 'considering his next move. He recognises that refusing to play for Chelsea is not an option and he has no intention of going on strike. He wants the situation resolved before the pre-season tour of America which departs on Thursday.

'He now has one major option left open to him which would be to go public with his dissatisfaction with the club in a newspaper interview and try to force them into selling him. Chelsea are still hopeful that will be avoided and some kind of resolution can be reached today.'

Stay tuned, folks...

This story will just not die. Even rumours from peeps in the know at the club r saying that JT could b close to moving.

tbh im not against man city and chelsea signing players for £30m, its more the £100m and stupid prices like that. all off real madrids moeny comes from the club and the president is not allowed to invest any of his own money, they have the advantage of being the royal club so cant go bankrupt

i know its there money and they can do what they like with it, but what happens when the owner gets bored, like it seems abramovich has and doesnt put the large sums of money into the cub, or starts sacking managers willy nilly. the clubs will stagnate and go nowhere.

John Terry, what are you playing at if this is true. If this was all to get a pay rise from the stupid amount he earns now to something ridiculous... then i'm sorry but that is sad.

Rumours that I am hearing is that JT wants to talk to City, Chelsea r saying fine, but if u want to leave, u have to hand in transfer request but JT doesnt want to do that. So who knows whats going to happen. Will blow any chance of him ever managing Chelsea out of the water if he does go, and thats meant to be what he wants to do in the future.

So Chelsea are calling his bluff because they know he wont hand in a transfer request. :S

All seems a bit strange...I don't really believe the reports.

Who says he'll even make a good manager?

Seems similar to the Alonso saga - wont sell unless he requests a move (which he has done the forker - apparently)

Changing my tune since 2008.
He's a greedy bugger - if Terry goes then NOBODY can claim that it isn't for money. Impossible to do so because he's already at a Champion's League club who challenge for the title every season and he's captain. £250k p/w? What the heck? That's as much as the average person earns in a decade that he earns in one week. Before tax, obviously.

Spending is ridiculous, most clubs owe a lot of money. Blackburn owed a very small amount of money to the banks before we sold Cruz but it wasn't uncontrollable debt - we've paid it off and have £13m to spend now after paying for other things. A select few other clubs spend within their means too, but its a very uneven playing field these days and clubs are getting into debts, such as Man Utd with the Glaziers. The club buying situation is very dangerous for the game, and Terry's wages could prove absolutely ridiculous.

of course it's about the money. If you were told that you could double your money by moving, the vast majority would move.

Don't give me that loyalty crap, only the bare minimum of players are truly loyal (and thats only if they continue to challenge)

If I wasn't struggling financially, hell no. That's when it gets to pure greed. Even right now I'm leaning towards Company A that will pay me quite a bit less money than Company B because A seems more attractive. If you're already earning millions you're hardly struggling to put food on the table or save for the future
