You can be a tad annoyed in losing a good player, but you can't blame a Spanish player (or any player really) wanting to join Real at the moment (if he goes) |

definately not, could work out in the end if it happened, no doubt we will hold out for a decent price for him, perhaps put that into purchasing a decent attacking option, someone like David Silva wouldn't go amiss..... |

He's going home really back to his country which is quite fair. Rafa Benitez hasn't exactly treated him the best all the way through his Liverpool career either, he was offered as bait for Barry all through last summer which must have dented his morale somewhat. |

as Stacie said, that was instigated by Xabi himself which seems to be forgotten all the time, back in the 2007-08 season Xabi said that he wanted to return to the continent to raise his son, preferably Spain but would consider Italy too. He mentioned it publically more than once. |

Apologies then because I didn't realise he had publically stated he wanted a move abroad. In that case, I still maintain that it is not bad that he wants to go home to raise his child, but it is very bad of him that he would go to Italy which isn't his native country and stated his desires publically, something I feel very strongly about - I think players who speak out publically about their desires to move are indeed quite disrespectful sometimes. If he doesn't want to play for Liverpool, you're better off getting rid. If Rafa knew that Alonso was probably going though, why didn't he step up attempts to sign Barry?

Huge blow for Liverpool if true, let's be honest. I was never a fan of Alonso until he stepped it up this season. The bloke not only has talent but he has phenomenal mentality. |

money I would say, the Xabigate affair has been rolling for a while so its not certain he would be leaving and currently it still isn't really. Wouldn't make sense to buy Barry if we ended up keeping Xabi. |

imo this saga dates back to the day alonso refused to fly out for a european game because his wife was on the verge of giving birth. rafa and alonso had a major fall out over that, things just seemed to deteriorate pretty quickly then. he should hand in a request if he wants to leave, its the decent thing to do. the thing that worries me tho is some of the players being lined up to replace him. theres only a few that could do but when you see names like catermole and muvamba being linked with the club it doesnt fill you with confidence |

catermole and muvamba would be replacements for mascherano not alonso. if liverpool loose alonso they will need to have a huge rethink on their strategies, the wingers rnt good enough. gerrard and torres will have alot more pressure to perform and their service will not be near the standard it needs to be |

indeed. strategies will have to be changed and modified if we do lose him but i do feel there is a couple of players out there that can do the job alonso does. javi martinez being one. hes a bit more attacking than alonso and is top passer of the ball. he is also young and has time to improve |
