Downing to play in central midfield? Think he played there for Boro a bit last season. :S

Good signing but bad price.

When is he back from injury Oct/Nov

I reckon he could play left side of the midfield three and not on the wing

Before then...just right before the new season starts I think but he wont have had any pre-season so will take a bit before he's ready to rock n roll.

Anybody see Young switching wings to accomodate Downing? :S

downing played right wing this season, so they will probably be able to rotate in the game. im not to sure about aston villa this season, i can see them struggling to get into europe if they dont make a few more buys. city and spurs will be pushing them

all downing can do is cross. putting him infield would take this away from him

Over rated imo, no better than Gamst and if someone offered £12 million for Gamst i would piggyback him to his new club

Overrated? The exact opposite imo. I would like to know who exactly rates him for him to be overrated btw!

I think he is good and he will be a good signing for Villa. Cattermole was a huge miss for Boro last season but its no coincidence than Downing has a bad season and they are relegated.

O'Neil rates him at £12 million, about £4-5 million too much. Could get better abroad for £6 mill less.

See much improvement from him in the future? He will be mid 20's now

In todays market that is the price players like Downing will cost. No chance could he get better abroad for £6m. Premiership proven, other than last season he scored 6/8 goals a season. He was the main reason Boro were in the Prem for a few seasons.
