is h going to be back up. milner can play in the middle or at rightback, a left footed left winger will also be a benefit heskey/carew. downing also would have some leadership qualitys that have left with barry and laurson its no good this player being cheaper and better if he hasnt found his feet until after christmas, will be too late by then. im not saying the player has to be english, just that it would be better if they had already played in the league |

He should be back up. Playing Milner out of his normal position is again foolish. He's much better out wide because he has good delivery and can go past players. I wouldn't call Downing a leader either, just because he captained Boro for a while doesn't mean he's a leader really... How do you know this player isn't going to do well until half way through the season? It may be a bit of a risk, but its definetly a risk worth taking and alot of players that come over here do well. And if players are scouted properly then you'd get a good idea of how well they'll settle. |

there is more chance of them not settling that settling IMO plus they normally have to be dire for half a season if they r going to be actually be better than average |

I don't think there is much difference between Downing and Milner with the exception of Downing scoring more goals. (As previous seasons who show other than last ) I also agreed they don't need him and like I already said it could have been spent better on another position but in that position its a good deal imo.

He was bought for his versatility since he can play both wings and in the centre, just like Barry could play a few different positions if needed. There probably are players abroad better/cheaper but they are always a risk and Villa don't seem to want to take that kind of gamble like other clubs do. |

Signed on a 4 year deal. It's all gone through. I'm sure the Villa fans are over the moon.

O'Neil has said he plans to use Downing more often in a centeral role. Bit of a gamble for 12 million but could well be a good signing. Barry's replacement though?

Well he is English, left-footed, a penalty taker, has black hair. Might as well put Barry on the back of his shirt next season.
