British managers aren't getting chances

It's nearly Christmas
Steve Bruce says British managers aren't getting enough opportunities at the top clubs and the only way to get a chance now is to get a team promoted from the Championship.

Quote:

"Most English managers must now bring a team into the Premier League to get a crack at the top flight.

"If their way is continuously blocked - the big clubs we're talking about - then what's the point? What's the point of going into it if all you can be is in the lower divisions.

"In that respect, it's changed from 20 years ago. The big one obviously is Fergie. Would he have got the United job from Aberdeen? I don't think so.

"I hope the British ones are given a chance, people like David Moyes. Harry Redknapp defied the trend by getting the Spurs job.

"I'm hoping that Sunderland's decision to appoint me keeps us going in that direction."

It will continue like this aslong as the league is as competitive. Clubs no longer want to take risks, some European clubs will appoint former club legends but the majority of top clubs want proven managers. Maybe they should go abroad like McClaren.

Its good education for managers who start off their managerial career in the lower leagues. Paul Ince is a classic example of this, he moved up to the premiership too soon and basically paid for that mistake...

personally though i'd want a manager because he is good at his job, not because he's Eng-er-lish... i think some english managers out there don't really have a good understanding of managing teams, they tend to stick to the 4 - 4 - 2 with 2 out and out wingers and play the english way, or up to nowadays, play a very negative 4 - 5 - 1 formation.
