Swanning in telling people they have to up their game like he's Mr Man Utd...

"Hopefully I might add something the team haven't got at the moment," he said.

"Nobody is going to replace Ronaldo, even though I wear his shirt, but if someone like Wayne (Rooney) could improve his game five per cent, that would help. I can add a little bit, there is Antonio Valencia.

"Everyone is going to have to step up to the plate a bit more to make up for him."

he's absolutely spot on. No player is perfect and everyone is capable of upping their game and he has the right attitude towards next season it seems.

think he has a point tbh. Only a spectacle because Owen said it, if Rooney said this everyone would be ok with it.

He has a point but it shouldn't really be said from a player that's only just arrived at the club...

No. :p How would you like it if somebody new and on the same level as you came into where you worked and said you needed to do better?

I doubt he just came out and said it. He was obviously asked something by the reporter about filling in for Ronaldo or something. And he'sright, everyone has said that the players need to step up now that he is gone...

but the fact is its not just anyone he's an england legend who knows rooney and the majority of the utd players.. if it was a foreign player who came over it might be viewed differently. but i really doubt rooney and the others took offense to this at all. i think they admire owen to be honest even the older players like giggs van der sar scholes etc

Why not? It shows his commitment to the club that he wants them as good as they can... It shows ambition, and it is a positive attitude looking at the new season (let's all chip in to forget ronaldo).... Wonder why you are always looking at the negative side of such things Flak :S
