According to Gazetta dello Sport, 36-year-old Italian striker Christian Vieri has spurned the opportunity of signing for Blackburn Rovers and has walked away from his trial period with the club.

On Friday Goal.com reported that Bobo's trial period at the Lancashire club was going well, and that Sam Allardyce was prepared to offer him a deal in the coming days.

Regardless of this, Vieri has left the club after changing his mind on the deal- and not turning up to training- and will not join them on their pre-season tour of Croatia.

Blackburn boss Allardyce was believed to be impressed with Vieri and was keen on snapping up the free agent.

Big Sam has already lost Matt Derbyshire to Olympiacos and Roque Santa Cruz to rivals Manchester City this summer, and was hoping Vieri could be the perfect option, as he looked to save funds for other deals.

It is now believed that the ex-Italian international is considering a new career path away from the European game. In fact, the former Inter man could now hang up his boots for good and persue a career in professional poker instead.
Can't have seen any light at the end of the tunnel. Surprised though after what Big Sam had to say about him the other day.

Changing my tune since 2008.
Thank goodness. He's too old, and while I'm sure that 3 or 4 years back he could have been a great player, I think at 36 and as unfit as he is, he's well past it.

Time to look at some proper prospects.

Big Sam must have seen something in him to give him a trial in the first place. Shame Vieri's not had one last crack at it.

I saw you linked with a Rapid Vienna striker the other day but can't remember his name, think it began with an E.
