That Arsenal aren't considered as contenders for the title anymore or would you prefer it that way so the pressure is off? :S

Fergie was talking about Man City's potential challenge and said...

It's the truth at the moment. But it changes from season to season. After the 07-08 season when the top 3 were 4 points apart, some people were saying they thought Arsenal would challenge again the season after. Then we lost Hleb and Flamini and it was back to Man United and Chelsea.

Liverpool wouldn't have even been considered before last season, now they're seen as challengers. If they don't perform as well as last season and Arsenal step it up again it could change again.

Personally it doesn't bother me if people don't see us as challengers because people can be wrong, there can be surprises. It's not bad being written off though because it is less pressure on the team but it does mean you've dropped a level. What people think at the start of the season doesn't mean anything - the only time I'd be happy to be thought of as a challenger is if we'd won it the season just before. Chelsea have been nothing but challengers for the last few years.

I think Arsenal will challenge next year if they sort out the defence

Well said Stacie. :) That's not a bad way of looking at it. It's surprising just how quickly things can change from year to year and can only take one player in or out that makes a big difference.
