Well that was another s**t game, but 3 points is 2 points.

Gerrard, Benny Torres were s**t in leading the line. Although Gerrard stepped up a bit more after scoring the goal. Wonder if anyone noticed that was the best cross of the day, probably the only cross of the day which made it past the first man without going to the goalkeeper.

Defence looked a lot more solid today, still a few shakey moments, but some more clean sheets and they will be fine. Lucas and AA is probably the best pairing so far this season and neither player sat back - both were just as attacking as each other. AA's lack of games was telling and he went straight to the treatment room when coming off, probably to sort out the calf quickly ahead of the game against Villa on Tuesday.

Ref was a bit of a camel when it came to Torres, several fouls went unpunished, in the first half, including and elbow to the face. But on the whole had a decent game - apart from booking the wrong player for the sending off.

yup rubber

al tho aquaman was poor which we all can admit, dont you think we have more balance with him in the team, because he was passing forward it took a lot of pressure off our defenders

the gerrard header was top top class imo a header the likes of crespo would have been proud of but he was poor apart from the goal

I only saw the game on MOTD and Torres looked woeful yesterday but its another 90 mins under his belt. We need him to be firing on all cylinders for the next two games

Yea the balance was better - wouldnt miss Masch if he left in the summer to be honest. Gerrard was better after the goal, cant believe it was his first from open play since the hull game.

Benny was lucky he got the goal in the end, i would have killed him as he had an open goal to shoot at but drags inside instead <_<

Good win in the end. It was a more fluid display than most efforts recently but there is still a serious lack of tempo/urgency when we are not trying to counter-attack.

Aquilani had a shocking first half. Second half he was so much better. He's a bit like Lucas in terms of - give him a bit of time (like only have 10 men) and he will spray the passes about nicely and look good. But close him down quickly and he doesn't seem to have the speed of thought to play the same passes without the 5 minutes he needs to think about it. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that it's still rustiness and not having played a premier league game from the start before.

Gerrard was decent again - his passing is stilll it's usual holywood hit & miss style but he looked far more up for it yesterday then he has done recently. Hopefully that goal is what he needs in order to get back to his best.

Torres looked just like what he is - unfit. A few moments of magic but you could clearly see that he is not fully fit.

Benny was pretty anonymous himself before the sending off but he did well in the end for his goal.

Defense was solid in the most part but there are still moments of stupidity. Insua's positional sense and awareness is just atrocious most of the time. He looked good going forward again though and the cross for Gerrard was great.

Lucas pretty much did Mascherano's job and did it well enough not to notice Masch was even missing so fair play for that. He still looks at his best when he runs on past Gerrard and gets at the defense though. I'd really like to see him given this free box-to-box role a lot more.

Aurelio was ok. Probably the best left "winger" we have at the club and gives the much needed cover to Insua.

Pacheco, when he came on, was great to watch. Showed some real glimpses of what he can do. His control, passing and awareness of his teammates is just superb. I'd love to see him being used from the bench more often as the season goes on.

Aye, Lucas did some really good work in there yesterday. It was defeinitely all Lucas first half. AA did more work second half when he had the extra time and space. Some of his cross field passes were sublime.

Lucas looks such a super little player when he runs past Gerrard coz no opposition player thinks he can do anything so just leave him to run off into space
