Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni has undergone a medical ahead of his impending switch to Serie A side Roma.

The Italy international, who has been ushered to the exit door of the Bundesliga club after falling out with coach Louis van Gaal, travelled to Rome on Wednesday afternoon.

Toni arrived at the Gemelli hospital in the Eternal City for the examination with his return to Italy set to be sealed when the transfer window opens again on 2nd January.

The former Fiorentina forward is expected back in the Italian capital on Saturday when he will meet up with coach Claudio Ranieri and his new team-mates.

Toni moved to Bayern on a four-year deal from the Viola in the summer of 2007, but the German giants admitted earlier this year they were prepared to allow him to leave for nothing.

Whether Roma have managed to secure his services without having to pay a fee remains to be seen, with the full details of the deal still to emerge.

This move has been in the works for a while now from what I've read, but if Roma got him on a free that is a brilliant piece of business imo.
