dunno, if they have had a bit of a break with sundays game off then it might be prudent to give them a run out at least, reckon one will start (gerrard) with the other on the bench to come on later

Just heard that not a single NFL game has ever been called off due to bad weather with famous superbowl games in the past labelled as "the snowbowl" and the "fogbowl". As an american commentator just said "we believe in playing through the elements" :)
the difference over here is that there is already an established infrastructure in place to deal with bad weather. Its simply the norm (especially up here in Minnesota) that there is heavy snowfall, etc. The system costs a fortune but its necessary seeing as snow often comes in feet rather than inches several times each winter, plus the temperature rarely goes above freezing point so it doesnt melt till march/april. As an example the small town i live in ( basically a suburb of Minneapolis) spends something like 5% of the annual budget (500k of $10m) just on snow removal.

Back home (the UK) many of the stadiums can deal with this weather but the local infrastructure cant. And why should local councils be expected to fork potentially millions of pounds for something that happens so rarely?

Plus even with the massive expenditure on preparing for bad weather the area still shut down over christmas. We had 2 blizzrds in quick succession so most of the roads were closed over hundreds of miles for several days.

Comparing the US system to the Uk system isn't a fair comparison basically.

Fair point but even if you compare the UK today to the UK 30 years ago I think there's a change in mentality rather than infrastructure that's caused the response to these blizzards. Health and safety bollox basically. I mean when I was at school, we used to have blizzards like this and HAD to go to school. It just wasn't even a consideration that schools wd close. The same applies to football matches. Back in the day matches would go ahead no matter what. But it's a business now and like any other business a whole load of other factors have to be taken into account.

By the way I take on board your point about the infrastructure but this american commentator also talked about one game that was played in the fog. He was making the point that some of the best matches have been played in extreme weather conditions and have been eventful bcoz of it.

i remember my schools (primary and secondary) being closed loads of times as a kid and i finished secondary school over 10 years ago. i dont think there is a great deal of difference in how bad weather is handled, bear in mind this is meant to be one of the Uk's worst winters on record. the worst for 30 years or something.

Also its in the club's best interests for these games to go ahead, generally speaking they can have the matches its just a case of people getting to the matches thats the issue. The number of accidents has increased dramatically. So i think its less to do with the clubs and more the local councils/police forces.

And glancing at the sports news last month there were a few big NFL games postponed/cancelled plus basketball, etc, due to weather.

What thread are we discussing this in by the way? I think we've gone off the topic slightly

On a side note while glancing at the sports news i saw notices about Darts matches being cancelled due to bad weather which made me chuckle.

10 years ago is when it all started under New Labour! Yeh it is councils etc that's why I said Health and Safety is the problem. Maybe more people walked to grounds 30 years ago and now the problems/accidents stem from traffic etc?

lol yeh just a tad off topic and I'm just annoyed cos way things are going I won't have much footy to watch this weekend
