If (stress if) Man Utd and Chelsea drop points this week and arsenal win tonight are they still out of the title race? And Cesc, I would rather Gooners win it this year then anyone but you jut changed my mind for me |

maybe my first line was ambiguous, you have to beet the best to be the best, currently chelsea and united are the best 2 teams in the league to push them or stand a chance of over taking them you need to beet them. if arsenal were above them on points and lost to them but stayed above them it would be fine(like united last season) arsenal are trailing them before the united game they were 1 point behind united and 4 point behind chelsea now for the gap to be 7 behind united and 9 behind chelsea, there is actually more chance of aston villa in 7th over taking arsenal than arsenal over taking chelsea, mathematically that is dropping points against hull and Birmingham would only be a shift of 6 points though, that relays on united and chelsea dropping points against other teams, and as we saw last year with united, they dropped 2 points against the bottom 12 teams if man utd had lost to arsenal arsenal would have been higher on points than them, plus both teams would have had to have played each other (both cant win that match) you keep saying theoretical situations like if arsenal won all their games, say arsenal did and man utd won all their games but the two against arsenal. arsenal win the league because they beet united, that is the only reason they would win the league |

the'd be in again. but they had to relay on other teams to win games against united and chelsea, rather than win their games against them |

Okay. When I said 'If Arsenal won all their games' it was only in response to when you were chatting on about if United had beaten Liverpool. Ifs don't matter for s**t. And I only said it once, I don't 'keep' saying it at all. You can talk about Man United all you want but right now, Chelsea is the best team in the league. Are you honestly going to tell me that if you don't beat them it's impossible for United to win the league? You do not need to beat the best in a one to one game to win the league, jeez you saw that last season, why are you struggling to understand it? You only have to beat them over the other 36 games. You keep saying you have to beat the best to be the best but you don't, not at all. I don't know how much more proof you need. Your first post was ridiculously general if you're speaking specifically about Arsenal's position over the last two weeks. Of course if we're behind a team at any given point in the season we're going to need to beat them to get closer to them or overtake them, but that would be the same even in August or September. Come the end of the season, you can finish above a team even if you never beat them once. For the short term, you may need to beat a team you are trailing, of course. But for the long term, for May, which is what you were referring to, you don't. |

I think that has been the difference for Arsenal this season, the games against Utd and Chelsea. Would be suprised if Chelsea and Utd dropped that many more points than Arsenal over the next 2 months. |

But surely if it's "laughable" that Liverpool would overtake Arsenal with only a 5 point gap (potentially 2 as of tonight and Liverpool are by far the form team remember) then surely you would think it's laughable that Arsenal can finish above United, seeing as you are 7 points behind us? If i were you i'd be concerned that a team who has had an abysmal first half of the season is potentially fighting for 3rd with you now. Its not "unjust" as you put it, its just a sign that Arsenal aren't anywhere as good as you seem to believe. |

I too think it's unlikely but it's not impossible, that's all I'm saying. Chelsea have already had their rough patch, they dropped something like 10 points in a month so I'd be majorly shocked if they did it again. |
