Decent performance from the lads today but Lille were mentally gone for a period in the game. It's almost as if they forgot scoring one would put them through at the time we were only two up.

Gerrard was incredibly frustrating to watch once again this season. He really needs to step it up. Lacklustre passing, lethargic movement and hardly any effort to track back at times. Not what we need from the Captain.
surprised at your gerrard point. his role was to pressure the defenders, the guy did lots of working closing down cb and full backs. if you got the distance run stat and watch the game against focussing on that you would see it

you are only having a go because the commentator kept wanting gerrard to drop back to help lucas and masch, it was clear rafa told gerrard to stay up top to get the 3rd tho
I didn't watch it on channel 5 dipsy so your point goes down the drain.

Yes I'm sure Rafa said "go ahead Stevie, stay up there and walk around like a muppet while we soak up all the pressure." I always watch players performances closely and the effort they put into putting themselves about and if your counting jogging towards an opposition player after the ball has gone is "lots of work closing down the oppo" then by all means he did a fantastic job. I know how much you love Gerrard so you probably can't take anything bad said against him, to even suggest I was influenced by tv commentators is a disgrace in it self.
calm down

he did a hell of a lot of closing down, i aint sure what game you watch ;)

if you disagree with rafas tactics to keep him up top for the counter attack then blame the tactics not the follower. like i said just get the amount of distance run stat which will go some way to see if he closes down a lot
Stats are misleading and even you know that. And I'm sorry I forgot Sammy Lee was your brother in law feeding you the tactics on what Gerrard should and shouldn't do. Any moron can see at 2-0 he should've dropped back to help ease the pressure. Player or Manager it makes no difference.

yeah they are but sorry dont agree at all

if gerrard was staying up, that was the tactics BY RAFA. you kno how rafa always gets his players knowing what to do and they have to do it or they will be subbed

torres and gerrard being up top was his tactics, i am sorry was rafa your sister in law feeding you info that gerrard was actually told to go deep but isnt doing it?

Do you not read what I type. I said he should've been doing it not that Rafa told him to do it. You think players listen to Rafa while the game is in full flow?
Have a read what Lucas said after the Lille game and tell me if the players have their own minds, ideas and thoughts on what they should be doing in game.

monu is right...i agree with him... often gerrard seems to give up chasing the ball if he had lost it or never bothered closing players down, it was definatley noticeable.

yes i do, you are claiming gerrard should have dropped deep to take off pressure of the cm and work harder

I responded by saying he shouldnt have, 8 players behind the ball at home is enough, the problem was during that time, the cb were hoofing it up and the cm went crazy in just clearing it instead of passing

also i disagree on the rafa part, i hate the guy but one thing he has is tactical control, he forces the players to know exactly what they have to follow. gerrard staying up was hat rafa told him to do regardless of the pressure, if he needed to drop back, rafa would have told him by shouting or when gerrard was close by, in fact they even talked in the throwing remember and gerrard still stayed up, further suggesting rafa didnt want him to drop back

gerrard was key in beating pompey, chasing down the first ball. i am surprised at you 2 saying he doesnt close down, the man is running like a donkey was is torres chasing down defenders and keepers. but you cant do it for 90 mins, both players take time to regain energy, they aint Duracell rabbits ffs

There you go bringing up other pieces of crap that are irrelevant to the topic at hand. What has his Pompey game got to do with anything I've said about his attitude and "tactical play" last night?

Are you serious? So the situation has nothing to do with it? The mentality of the players has nothing to do with it. Regardless of what position we are in or what we are trying to protect 8 players will always be enough? Please do explain as I'm sure this is going to be good.

The CM went crazy in just clearing it you say? Well maybe that has something to do with the fact they weren't provided with the outlet. Gerrard faded and couldn't provide that link for a majority of the second half. Torres scored in the 49th minute. It was from 55-80 that he did fork all. Lille had the period where they were pressing and pressing and your bringing up crap about him doing it late in the game?

If anything it's his lack of initiative. For someone who is so experienced you continue to babble on he was Rafa's puppet and wouldn't dare disobey him.
