the ref was fair and balanced, in fact he was leniant towards us as torres, carragher and masch should have been off (according to them)

i believe those comments were alcohol fuelled ...added with a smidgen of complete bias
you will get called bitter and a sore loser now for that reply
not viable to call me that... i accept we lost, i also accept the fact decisions went against us but what can you do eh...onwards to the sunderland game now, our lads certainly need a few days to rest after the demanding week they just had.

i think maxi had a decent game, allthough not pentrative, but still decent. doesnt give the ball away cheaply unless when karate kicked

we have to really win 7 out of 7 now, that will get us to 71 points imo will be enough for 4th.

i hope we never see lucas and masch in cm again this season. aa and masch/lucas. also babel should be playing and so should benny. kuyt and maxi should be dropped if there is any justice in the world

yeah but he does nothing else, he doesnt really offer any attacking ability, doesnt defend well either, was slow to getting back to help insua. he is no threat at all, with maxi on the wing, it gave neville the licence to bomb forward. when valencia got through for the so called pen, where was maxi?

i hope babel gets the nod against sunderland which i think he will

i think rafa is actually starting to like babel and what he offers, he has improved 10 times on his defensive work

yeah perhaps he opted for maxi to retain the ball more as babel tends to lose it quite often, ball retention against a team like utd is paramount.

again i thought lucas had a decent game, i just wish he would push up more as hes shown hes capable of. unless its rafa who holds him back and instructs him to play central only.

true but something that i realised is that babels role is to be direct, rafa doesnt mind him losing the ball most of the time as he wants him to attack the full back

think of it this way

IF babel doesnt lose the ball, he will get past the full back by cutting in and is one on one at the goal with a good chance of scoring. plus i been delighted with how less often he loses the ball now, he used to lose it loads but its cut down by quite a bit and he work rate has been fantastic in terms of pressuring defenders and helping our full backs.

what do you think or am i over reacting

hey dont get me wrong, i thought lucas for most of the game was good apart from a couple of situations when he could have released gerrard or torres. thing is what lucas offers is control of possession and good defence but nothing really going forward 90 percent of the game.

we need to attack win these 7 games, plus 4th looks gone so may as well give aquaman the chance

babel certainly has improved, perhaps rafa felt it too much of a risk in starting him this game.

i agree that we will most likely see him start this sunday.

Sorry Papa :hugs: I is back now

I can't believe you left me to put up with all the doom-mongering on my own with no positive support
what did you make with maxi btw yesterday, with the little cover he gave insua and his poor attacking performance, the selection to use him and so on. considering when babel came on he was pretty good at getting into dangerous areas
Thought Maxi had a decent first half but was poor second half. He should have been bought off sooner in hindsight. Babel always gets in dangerous positions and looks good - that is until he actually touches the ball and tries to run with it. Then he just messes up virtually every time :p

Lucas was superb first half when he was given licence to go forward. Box-to-box. That's what his natural position is and what I've been crying out for him to be used as since he signed. He's damn good at it when given half a chance. Second-half pretty much passed him by as a) he was playing far more defensively and Utd were just passing round him and b) when we did attack there was no real intent or directness to it so any runs that Lucas did make were too far advanced of the man with the ball and the pass couldn't be played.

Overall the whole second-half was a real disappointment. Can't really think of any player who really played anything close to what we wanted to see. Gerrard masked his poor display by playing 3 good passes - 1 that lead to the goal and 2 that should have been put away by Torres. If both of those had gone in and we had won both he and Torres would be getting huge praise right now. As it was they didn't go in and that makes Gerrard's poor display even more noticable. To be fair to him though, second-half especially, there was no service up to either of them. That's when you can see changes in either formation or personel are needed. If your best 2 players can't get on the ball because we are dropping too deep or not passing quickly enough then change something. Rafa just waits too long to do anything about it which can get very frustrating.

The pass that led to the goal was a terrible pass. He should've slipped Torres in on the reverse opposed to going out wide.

He had 2 options, the ball to Torres looked the better ball at the time but who knows if we would have scored from it? As it turned out the ball to Kuyt worked out lovely so it goes down as a good pass to help create the goal.

i did...fletcher won the ball, kuyt went to retrieve it, fletcher get a slight nudge from kuyt, both players went down, fletcher swings with his arm and kicks out at kuyt albeit no contact but the intent was there, ref does nothing.

paul scholes sent off for swinging arm out at xabi alonso 1-2 seasons back and got a straight red.

the ref was dire yesterday and was very lenient towards utd imo.
That was much a do about nothing. If players get sent off for that stuff in derby games all of the time then there would be nobody left on the pitch at the end of some of them.

okay firstly, from what i saw it was more than a little nudge. but i guess we are never going to agree on that.

secondly, i only brought it up because LFC listed all these decisions that went against liverpool. i feel like if you are going to list a list like that, while accusing all the united fans for being biased themselves, then you should mention things that didnt go the opposing way either. i never said it to fuel some sort of biased argument. i simply said it because of the hypocrisy in some of the posts.

thirdly, LFC seriously...get a grip. all these posts to blah saying that all the united fans are gonna get mad, tell him off, how he is in for it etc etc whatever else the hell you said...think about it, most of those types of responses are aimed at you because the majority of your posts in match day threads are absurd. you actually have no right to call anyone bias. i dont know if you have noticed, but there are a large amount of liverpool and united fans on here who are able to talk sensibly and humbley everytime our two sides meet.

fourthly, LFC i have not once said responded to anyone other than you about the ref being biased. you arent the only one who has said it, paddy said it and blah said it, and i cant remember who else. but there is a huge difference between their posts and yours. i've not denied that the ref was lenient towards us, in fact i'm one person on here (like many others) who can actually give opinions and not be biased, i said neville shouldnt have got away with what he did, i said fletcher acted childish, and im sure there were other things as well. but when you start making our like blah is going to be hounded by us like some insane mob...utterly ridiculous. can you honestly say you arent surprised at how some people act towards some of your match day posts?

fifthly and finally, saying the ref is a united fan 2 days before the game even starts says it all really.

the end.

sorry LCF, but some of your posts since this afternoon have irked me <_<

10 Things I noticed from Man United vs Liverpool

1. Singing in the Sun – In what would no doubt be called Ironic by Alanis Morissette, and so bizarre it might of convinced me there was a God if it wasn’t for all the other stuff, the only place it wasn’t raining this weekend was in Manchester where United and Liverpool fought out the most watched club game in world football in the relative sunshine at Old Trafford. And within 5 minutes of the kick off the appropriately sun-streaked hair of Fernando Torres had flicked the scousers into the lead with a header that should be printed in “How to score with your bonce for dummies” under the heading “Textbook”. It was very good. As good as it got for Liverpool though.

2. If at first you don’t succeed… -
Within another 6 minutes United were level after Javier Mascherano had brought down Antonio Valencia at somewhere roughly around the box and Howard Webb had decided to round up the foul and award a penalty. Pepe Reina pulled off what everyone at Sky seemed to think was a fantastic save from Wayne Rooney’s spot kick, but one which nicely plopped the ball back in front of Rooney again, who was then left with the simple of task of just moving his foot a little, thus making it – actually – the worst possible save he could have made. By this point it was all bubbling up nicely and the game was managing to be both tight and open at the same time which makes me really want to make a joke about thrifty prostitutes but since I resisted the temptation to use a similar line when describing how easy it was for Rooney to score, I think I’ll suppress the desire to mention it again. Hold on, damn, I just mentioned it didn’t I?

3. Where have all the cowboys gone? -
Just as I was thinking this, it – naturally - died down and went rubbish, and the remaining thirty minutes of the half consisted mainly of people running around excitedly a lot without actually doing anything. At one point Park Ji Sung missed a free header and Nemanja Vidic was alerted to a man on by 70 thousand people shouting “man on” at him. Exciting stuff

4. Say what you see, see what you say -
During this break in any kind of entertainment, my mind started to wander – or at least I’m going to pretend it did in order to crow bar in a few banal observations. Firstly, Pepe Reina always looks too small for his kit. It’s like he’s playing in an extra baggy basketball jersey with sleeves, or is possibly wearing several layers of padding to cushion the blow of throwing himself around a lot. Javier Mascherano just seems to spend matches fouling people then looking amused by it. Jamie Carragher is permanently in a state of perpetual complaint and Patrice Evra has taken it upon himself to do all of Ronaldo’s old tricks, just in positions where no one’s anywhere near him, thus making his success rate impressively high.

5. You've done too much, much to young -
After a brief sojourn in the fluorescent punditary cupboard - where Michael Owen was busy severing all his ties with Liverpool FC with his professional partisanship and consistent use of the word “we” - it was back to the action where Ji Sung Park and Darren Fletcher seemed to be playing as strikers. With Wayne Rooney more geared up than usual – which is usually quite geared up anyway – his desire to be involved in all the build up play meant the most frequent site of the opening 20 minutes of the second half was United breaking forward only to find they were missing their most potent attacking threat, who was inevitably still in his own half somewhere after enthusiastically trying to defend a Liverpool throw in by the corner flag.

6. Linking Park -
This tactic eventually worked brilliantly though as it was Park who stooped to nod in United’s winner after all of Liverpool’s defenders (and the camera men) had focused their attentions on Rooney. The Korean ghosted into the penalty area to nod in Darren Fletcher’s scrumdiddlyumptuous cross whilst being kicked in the face by Glen Johnson. As he wheeled away to celebrate, we weren’t treated to the usual close up celebration hero shot of the scorer, instead we were treated to a celebration hero shot of Wayne Rooney, until someone realized that someone else had actually scored and who the hell was this little Korean feller getting in the way of the shot?...Oh.

7. Lets get ready to rumble -
Rafa Benitez sent on Aquilani and Babel to try and swing the game back in Liverpool’s favour, both of whom did absolutely nothing, and a game that had threatened to bubble over all afternoon finally did, quite pathetically. On 66 minutes Fletcher and Kuyt got into a scramble which eventually resulted in them standing up and rubbing their chests together before the melee was eventually broken up by Webb, who was in the unusual position of being the biggest person on the pitch and ended up resembling a bald dad telling his rowing children to calm down.

8. Charge of the Sh**e Brigade -
United then spent the last 10 minutes giving the ball to Liverpool who proceeded to, very kindly, give it back to them. Rooney tried to dribble round the entire Liverpool team at one point, except the wrong way, and Nani and Valencia both won decisive tackles in their own box before Ryan Giggs came on to be hairy in a cast and not much else.

9. They weren't closer now Fernando -
In the very last minute Torres was given a clear site of goal only to scuff it Heskey-like on the spot he had previously kicked in petulance after United’s penalty award. Andy Gray in the Sky commentary gantry seemed convinced it had bobbled because of this, when it most likely hadn’t at all, but the resulting mis hit still fell to Yossi Benayoun who - possibly still in a state of shock at seeing Torres fluff such a good chance - contrived to head it weakly straight at Edwin van der Sar.

10. Just another case of history repeating
- And that was that...and then this. All in all it was a rather uneventful Man United – Liverpool encounter, but one played just on the right side of interesting. United march on after controlling the second half quite comfortably and Liverpool are left to fret over the increasingly good form of everyone else around them. A positive note for them would be how well they started the game, but the complete nullification of skipper Steven Gerrard from then on would be a concern. He simply hasn’t been very good this year, and neither have ‘Pool. In contrast United’s 3 main performers on the day, Park, Fletcher and Rooney, have all been. And thus, so have they. With everyone - including yours truly - assuming they’d struggle to keep the pace this season, United now sit in almost the exact same position at home and in Europe as they did this time last year. If anything, they look slightly stronger. Which makes absolutely no sense at all whatsoever.
