Gary McSheffrey agrees Coventry City return

FORMER Coventry City fans’ favourite Gary McSheffrey is coming home after agreeing a sensational return to the Ricoh Arena.

The Coventry-born forward was set to sign today and should get a hero’s welcome back at the club where he was leading scorer for three seasons in a row before being sold to Birmingham City for a fee rising to £3.6 million.

But four years on the 27-year-old is looking to resurrect his career at his boyhood club after being hampered by a niggling knee injury and limited opportunities at St Andrew’s, where he was released at the end of the season.

Re-joining the Sky Blues – the club where he grew up through the academy, made his debut at 16 and made his name in the game – McSheffrey will be manager Aidy Boothroyd’s first signing.

The new Sky Blues boss hopes that McSheffrey's signing will send out a clear message to the fans that he means business this season.

The Coventry kid underwent and passed a meticulous medical including scans and tests to prove his fitness ten days ago and was in discussion with the club most of last week before finally agreeing a deal at the weekend that will see him become a City player again from July 1 when his current contract with Blues officially expires.

I'm willing to give him a slim chance. He is still Judas to me though

Just realised I was thinking of Gary O'Connor

Will he be going on the left or up front?

Left wing/Left side of a front 3 I reckon. Now we just need 7 or 8 quality signings
