That's actually a pretty good reflection of the game for a change from Roy. Still doesn't explain some of his decisions like taking a bench full of central midfielders and strikers. Of course you will be forced to play people out of position if you don't actually take players who can play in different positions to each other

gotta say, big positive from this game that we obviously saw in the chelsea game is Torres is looking a million tmies better. Quiet second half but thats totally down to having no supply whatsoever! The big difference seems to be that he's up for it, rather than back to goal receiving the ball and laying it off he's now facing goal, making good first touches and making the difference. He looks a far happier player and given the supply he will score the goals for us.

I know a lot of people have slated Joe Cole, but in his defense the whole team has been poor at times, I would be really keen to see what Cole could do with an in form Torres and a pretty in form Gerrard playing with him. Certainly if he's fit i'd like to see that trio against stoke as I reckon Cole could find some great form with Torres being hungrier and happier in front of goal

Cole will be played on the left instead of Maxi when fit.

We'll have:

.......................................Reina.......................................

Johnson..............Carra....................Skrtel.........Konchesky

Meireles..............Lucas...............Gerrard...................Cole

.........................Kuyt.....................Torres........................

That will be our standard "first XI".

I personally think people have been harsh on Cole, which is surprising because I was pretty negative about the signing.

I think people expect too much from the likes of Cole and Meireles, they have joined a club thats been performing like complete dog sh1te at times so its a bit unfair to judge them IMO. If the team starts performing well then we could see them both being integral parts of the team.

For me he was brought in to add creativity. He's only behind Torres in the assist stats, in a team that has been struggling to control games so far. Once we have that down he'll be much more effective in my opinion. Don't like him on the left though, his crossing from the right is alot better.

yeah, tough to give him the ideal position because of other players, how you fancy Torres up front, Cole on the right, Gerrard in behind, and Charles "paddys emptied a box of kleenex over him already" N'Zogbia on the left for a line up?

Stick Lucas and Meireles in the central mid behind and we might just have a half decent team......

Yeah we have too many central players tbf. I'd say give me another box  I've been calling for Cole on the right and Kuyt on the left this season. Very hard to take Kuyt out of the team, I read an article the other week and it said that Kuyt has more assists for Torres than any other player, that's pretty impressive for someone only considered a workhorse.

I suppose in certain games Gerrard could drop back to CM, Cole come central, then Kuyt and N'Zogbia(or whoever comes in) on the flanks.

aye, think we definately need to get at least one proper winger in regardless, every game i just see so much of our play go through the center, we never seem to stretch a defence by utilising the wings which just makes it so much harder for us

Yeah it's a problem we've had for years unfortunately. Hopefully it'll be sorted in January though.

Maxi has started doing that from the left though - seems to have found a position he works best in now

I think he's playing ok, but I can't remember one occasion he's gotten to the byline on the left flank.

chuck kuyt on the right and gerrard in behind torres and that would look far better :S

If a winger is bought in i think you could drop Lucas for the "lesser" games and play Gerrard and Meireles in CM then Cole AM. then you bring on Lucas when the team is winning. else you have no proven back up for the central midfielders
