Changing my tune since 2008.

You see, I'm not convinced by them entirely. Ferdinand is incredible with Vidic but I don't think he's ever really formed a partnership with Terry. I think selecting Smalling ahead of Jones is a classic example of how big teams get players selected; Jones has been a first team player at Rovers all season and I can't recall a game where I came away thinking he hadn't played well. No reason why Smalling, who has barely played PL football this season, should be selected ahead of him using rational means of selection. Parker should be given a chance in the centre of midfield based on his performances but won't get the chance. He's been the best midfielder by a long way this season. |

16 matches, not even half a season. Jones played 26 matches and missed 10 through a really bad injury which he recovered a month early from. Jones has been in the Rovers team more consistently and will definitely continue to progress faster next season and gain far more experience. |

Jones has played in several different positions. Obv Smalling will get picked ahead of Jones, he is playing in a team more like the England set up. No disrespect to BBurn. |

Jones has played at CB since November for us. It just riles me that next season it would be better for Smalling to warm the bench for more than half the season and fill in for Vidic/Ferdinand in case of injury whilst Jones plays every match and gets top ratings/motm every match and Smalling will get into the squad having been a spectator. The team you're at means nothing compared to experience, and it doesn't matter what team you are at; if you are playing well week in week out, it is against the same players in the PL and is a bigger achievement at a smaller club imo where you have less resources and worse players around you. |

Have you seen Jones at CB this season? He's been unreal. Certainly no worse than all except Terry and Ferdinand, as stated by just about every match review he has received all season.Anyway, this is getting away from topic. The point I am trying to make is that it won't make any difference to the team that actually plays unless the youngsters play for a big team. Other than that, big name players will get in the squad regardless of their performances and that is why England will fail. Look at Germany - 5 of their starting XI last tournament was in their last U21 squad. And us? A team full of oldies. |
