Let Eto go? I dont really get it, he was happy to stay there They have spent over 70 million replacing him, 40 million on Ibrahimovic and 35 million on Villa while getting no money for him in the swap 37 goals hes scored this season, easily the best striker in Europe on form |

GOAT.

The best striker in europe is Messi. He plays through the middle so he should be counted as one and he scored 53 goals. There is no need for Eto'o when you have Villa and Pedro chipping in 23 and 22 goals respectively. They are better off as they are. |

Said the same thing in the Coppa thread Basically what Goonie said, there's no need for him and he'd be a detriment to Barca's current play in the same way that Torres would be as he isn't technically that great with his passing. He can dribble pretty well, his finishing is extraordinary (as shown last night), and he's a natural born winner. I would take him in a heartbeat tbh. |

Guardiola set about getting rid of any potential negative influences in the camp. Eto'o, although a cracking striker, was part of the Eto'o, Ronaldinho, Deco core of the Riijkaard team. Eto'o was an abrasive character and if Guardiola wanted to have a 'team' over time then he would have to move him on eventually. Another point already made was that Eto'o was a tad hit and miss in the build up. Often the Barca moves would fall apart at his feet. He wouldn't be as neet as the likes of Pedro or David Villa for instance. |

I thought Eto'o was after a monster contract from Barca...and joined Inter cos Barca wouldn't meet his demands? Anyhow i'd love Eto'o in a City shirt. He'd score bag loads of goals in the PL imo. |
Will be keeping Cech in my pocket for the next 3 months. Thanks Pedro

Boring Boring Chelsea

There is a good argument for this approach. In his biography, Sir Clive Woodward referred to these type of people as energy sappers. He says that no matter how good these people are at what they do, if they have a negative effect on team building and spirit, the overall effect on the TEAM is negative. He would not hesitate to ship out a so called best player in the world, if they adversely effected team spirit. I have no idea if Eto'o was an energy sapper; he's certainly an awesome striker, but looking at the team today, it's hard to say that getting rid of him was the wrong decision. I don't really think they've missed him. Scoring all those goals at Inter is fine but it's not like Barcelona have won fork all and regretted the decision. |

Eto'o was a very strong personality to say the very least. I remember Graham Hunter saying that Eto'o went into to the Barca dressing room after one game and walking up to Ronaldinho and deleting his number out of his phone infront of everyone. All because he didn't play him in when he felt he should have! 7 year old girls wouldn't behave like that! About energy sappers, I think that could be applied to Cristiano Ronaldo. Fair enough he scores a huge amount of goals but at what cost to team moral and general team performance? |

Ibrahimovic had a higher goal:game involvement than Villa in their first season iirc, he just didn't suit the style and club ethic. |

Eto'o had a fall out with Pep which was the catalyst to him leaving the club. On the flip side i dont think Pep could deal with fiery characters. |
