Going To Make You An Offer You Cant Refuse.
|
I was thinking about writing up something due to the huge differences in the way a footballer and an everyday person gets treated. Cheating on wives etc, generally forgiven... So what first attracted you to the multi millionaire footballer.... Say no more. But how about the assaults, DELIBERATE tackles that if I or you were to do to someone would go down for ABH. Ben Thatcher challenge on Pedro Mendes for example : If I were to run up to someone in town in the same sense Thatcher did, I would be arrested and sent down or at the very least have a fine, and a serious amount of community service. The above 3, were obvious intent to hurt someone. Done with malice rather than any sort of accident or 50/50 tough challenge. With the current FIFA allegations going on it made me wonder if corruption is slightly deeper in the footballing world than we would like to think? Should players be punished further? Why do the police not get involved with some of these assaults (especially the Mendes one?). |

Stuck up bastard

Same with all sports, happens within the jurasdiction of the game so the governing body deals with it. Fully agree that police should be involved if it's an exceptional case. |

Without trying to do to much guesswork, I'd not be surprised if there is some type of corruption. I keep going back to the Mendes one as it's probably the closest to an assault you will see on the football pitch. I read he got a 23 game ban, and 6 week fine from City. If I was to do it in a non league (it's still governed by the FA I think) I would be charged with assault IMO. The difference barring quality is money. Coincidence or dodgy? |

Thatcher should have done time imo. No-one should be subjected to that kind of cowardly challenge. Far from being a hard man he showed himself to be a pu*sy. |
Will be keeping Cech in my pocket for the next 3 months. Thanks Pedro

That's my point though, it was a cowardly assault, no place for it in football at all. Yet he just got a fine and banned for X amount of games. How can they not be charged further in these special circumstances? |

But then you're opening the door for other authorities to police our game, and not allowing consistency from other sports. Rugby League is legalised GBH, nothing is ever done out of the games control there, even when mass brawls take place. What goes on in the game, stays in the game. |
