Whole thing smacks of a lack of professionalism. If they weren't smart enough to have complete familiarity with the players' contracts when they arrived at the club, you'd think they'd have checked through Jones' contract in full BEFORE agreeing the fee. They can't agree it and then go 'umm.... actually... we're not sure now.'

they cant do anything, if there is a £16m buy out cause then they need Jones to sign a new contract which he isnt going to do

of course they can.

this is how it works

club x make bid for player

club y accept bid

club x and player agree terms

club x & y CONFIRM the transfer(i assume this is where blackburn are now, they can easily cancel the transfer if so)

Legally maybe they can do that, but professionally it's foolishness. Checking the legality of an agreement before you become a party to it is so basic.

thats all they are doing

checking if the clause is valid

what is so hard to understand about that keano and saggy?

sure they cocked up in not checking it before but its never to late until they sign the deal, they are just checking over the legal side of the clause, if its valid it will go through, if it isnt then it wont go through, simple as that

he is their player so why not?

if its not legal

should blackburn still let it go for 16m or ask for more money?

if it is legal then he will go for 16m

they are fully within their right to be sure before they sign anything

remember the saying

read the fine print? thats what they are doing, its never ever too late until they signed which they havent

I'm not questioning their decision to double check the clause, I'm saying it shows unprofessionalism to AGREE a sale and then try to halt it because they're not sure it's all good from THEIR OWN end. What exactly were they doing before?? Sitting around with a bucket of KFC?

Something don't smell right here, like bad chicken. I reckon they've seen people claim £16m for Jones is a bargain and they're seeing if they can up the price now. I'd rather believe they're worried they've been ripped off than that they have such an incompetent legal team.

thats not the point of the topic though

yes it isnt showing professionalism but they are correct in double checking everything at the end

what if they didnt and realised after it went through the clause wasnt binding? they would have been labelled idiots either way

the point is and always has been, let them check over if the clause is binding, if it is, then say sorry and move on, if it isnt, say sorry and reject it

what saggy and keano are saying is they accepted 16m so even if it isnt binding it should go through for 16m lol

What I've been told is that Jones does have a release clause. A few clubs, including Liverpool met that clause and got permission to speak to him. Man Utd didn't, they went directly to the player, agreed terms and did the medical. And assumed they could meet the clause and that would be that. The Venkys are now saying that how did Man Utd know about the clause? Blackburn were not contacted by Utd. So they are saying if we didn't tell you, who did? It's a tapping up row. Now it looks like Utd will have to pay more to stop Blackburn reporting them.

Yeah probably not true, but I think what I posted sounds reasonable enough for it to be true. Bit hard to believe these chicken people can't figure out a release clause
