"Samir Nasri and Arsenal FC regret to announce that they failed to agree contract terms due to irreconcilable differences. My client would like to thank Arsenal fans for their support and hopes they understand that his motivations are not financially motivated. Samir has not yet made a decision regarding where he will play in future but he hopes that it will enable him to further his progress. to allow him to compete at the highest level befitting his talent. Thank you all. Arsenal FC have informed me that they will make their own statement early tomorrow morning. Thank you AM."

Arsenal contract rebel Samir Nasri has erupted in fury on Twitter after being quizzed on whether he was staying with the Gunners. Nasri was called a c*** by one disgruntled fan om the social networking site and responded by using the same expletive in his response.

Nasri has been taken to task by supporters on the site after it emerged he is stalling on a new deal at the Emirates and may be considering a move to Manchester United. He reacted angrily to one fan, who uses the name immildlyracist. Nasri tweeted: "listen come in front of me tell me what u tweet i will show who is th c***". immildlyracist explained: "told him he was a c*** for thinking of going united, any proper arsenal fan will see where I'm coming from."He added: "I'm actually highly intelligent, no player deserves to wear an arsenal shirt unless he's 100% loyal , nas aint, wake up."Nasri's future at Arsenal is in doubt after Arsene Wenger admitted that talks about a new deal have stalled over the forward's wage demands.Arsenal have offered Nasri a new five-year contract worth £90,000 a week, but will be forced to sell him ahead of next season if the French international refuses to sign fresh terms, to avoid losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

It has been suggested that Nasri is holding out for £110,000 a week - in line with the club's top earner Cesc Fabregas. AW previously stated that money is the key stumbling block. He told French radio: 'We have a financial disagreement which hasn't yet been settled. We are still in discussions but we haven't agreed a deal.'

United are said to be keeping a close eye on the 23-year-old, but AW insisted: "One thing's for sure, we're not selling him to United."

Manchester United have opened tentative discussions over an audacious bid for Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri as they moved to the verge of clinching a £20million deal for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young.

It is understood that England forward Young was on the verge of signing a five-year deal at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

But it is news of United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's hardening interest in France star Nasri that will astonish fans of both clubs as the Barclays Premier League champions look to become even stronger ahead of next season.

The talks were held in Manchester between intermediaries of United and Nasri and it is understood the player's agent Jean Pierre Bernes was not present.

With United still looking to sign Luka Modric from Tottenham or Inter's Wesley Sneijder, their interest in Nasri remains exploratory.

However, United have been made aware that Nasri is definitely interested in a switch to Old Trafford. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said last week that there was no way Nasri would be allowed to leave for United.

Nasri has only 12 months left on his current deal but talks over fresh terms have stalled because of his wage demands.
Wenger is poised to beat Manchester City in the battle to sign Bolton's Gary Cahill after agreeing to match the 25-year-old defender's £17m release clause.

Big-money move: Ashley Young is set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Old Trafford
The Arsenal manager is anxious to strengthen his defence after missing out on Phil Jones this week despite matching the £16.5m fee paid by United for the Blackburn teenager.

Wenger is also close to concluding a £10m deal for Gervinho from Lille, an Ivorian who followed Emmanuel Eboue and Yaya Toure into European football via Beveren, the Belgian club that once had a formal relationship with the Gunners.

Heading for North London: Arsenal look set to win the race for Bolton defender Gary Cahill (centre)
Newcastle have agreed a £10m fee with Lille but the 24-year-old striker, who has only one year left on his contract with the French champions, has set his heart on moving to the Emirates Stadium.

I'd love to have Nasri, he makes great through balls that would finish in the back of the net more times at United than at Arsenal because we don't try and walk the ball into the net.

Manchester United yesterday began talks with Samir Nasri's representatives, as their early summer activity continued to frustrate Arsenal and leave other clubs trailing in their wake.

The talks in Manchester were only exploratory, conducted among intermediaries from both sides, and did not include the Frenchman's agent Jean-Pierre Bernes. But United's willingness to open negotiations with a midfielder who appears to have concluded that he has no future at Arsenal suggests they may be ready to capitalise on an opportunity in the transfer market. The 23-year-old, who was superb in the first half of last season, will fall out of contract next summer and will therefore come cheap – possibly as little as £8m.

United hold a fair number of the cards if their interest firms up. Chelsea have indicated that they are not interested in signing the player, who joined Arsenal in 2008, but it is understood that he does want to stay in England. With United's £17m deal to sign Ashley Young set to be completed by the weekend, Nasri appears to be just one of a number of options. The prospect of Wesley Sneijder moving to Old Trafford from Internazionale remains a genuine one.

Neither can a move for Tottenham's Luka Modric be ruled out, even though Chelsea may offer competition for him. United are keeping their options open, with the past 48 hours underlining Sir Alex Ferguson's resolve to do far more than merely tinker with his squad as he sets about getting closer to the standard Barcelona attained in last month's Champions League final. There has, as yet, been no official approach from United to Arsenal about Nasri. The losers in the Nasri saga are again Arsenal, who had retained some hope that he would be willing to give them first refusal on his continued services and consider any new deal they put before him when he returned from international duty. Nasri was left out of the France squad that played Poland last night.

But Nasri, evidently dissatisfied by the events of last season, feels that he will not collect silverware by staying in north London and had sanctioned yesterday's discussions. It would be a bitter blow for Arsène Wenger if United do take the Frenchman, in the week that he lost Blackburn Rovers' Phil Jones to his old adversary, Ferguson – despite several phone calls made in an attempt to wrest him out of United's grasp.

Nasri's departure would also leave Arsenal more in need than ever of holding on to Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard's departure to Barcelona is slightly less likely this summer than last, but just as Nasri's representatives arrived in Manchester yesterday, the usual summer noises from Catalonia began, linking Fabregas with the European champions. Arsenal would sell him if they receive an offer of at least £45m.

"He's a great player and he's a player from Barcelona because he already knows the language we speak on the pitch," said Gerard Pique on a day when the Spanish papers were full of talk of Fabregas finally returning to Barcelona. "He is a great friend of mine and of course I want him to end up wearing the Barcelona shirt." Fabregas is expected to holiday in Ibiza this summer with Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol, as he did last year.

The prospect of Nasri simply positioning himself for an improved six-figure deal at Arsenal cannot entirely be ruled out. Wenger has said of the player: "One thing's for sure – we're not selling him to Manchester United." But Nasri responded to that on TF1's Telefoot on French television at the weekend. "Let's find out if their interest is true first," he said. "Then we'll talk about it. I don't know if I will sign a new contract. Anyway, the discussions are ongoing. Do I want to go to United? We should see if their interest is real and if it is concrete first."

Arsenal respect Nasri and believe he would not try to negotiate a better deal publicly. The contracts of both Nasri and his compatriot Gaël Clichy expire next summer and the club hope to tie them to five-year deals worth £90,000-a-week.

Though there are suggestions that Arsenal may be ready to move for Bolton's Gary Cahill, a Modric move to Chelsea would be by far the greater statement of intent. Chelsea are also understood to be planning to retain the services of Didier Drogba.

Sneijder is not understood to interest Chelsea, and the Dutch playmaker also appeared eager to cool talk of a move to Manchester yesterday, describing his life with Internazionale in Milan as "beautiful and picturesque". "At Inter, there is a family atmosphere, and there is every reason to aim high," he said. "Milan is beautiful, picturesque. Elegance reigns, and I love it. At the moment I am very happy here, I do not see why I should go."

he don't even deserve a pay rise. he performed up untill december and wants the same wage as cesc. cesc is a world class midfielder. nasri is just a good player currently no more. potential to be world class but not yet. get rid imo. i like nasri as a player but thats rediculous. when rooney did what he did he'd won champions league, 3 league titles an f.a cup and 2 league cups. this kids got alot of balls. personallty think we should get rid of pretty much everyoe now and rebuild properly with players who want to play for arsenal

It's crazy tbh. He hasn't performed for Arsenal over a whole season in three years. He could be brilliant though for us, and even better for United. If he does decide to leave, will be interesting to see how many clubs go for him. Whoever offers the most cash will get his attention imo.

TBH though, how many top clubs will really be going for him? It's not as if he is needed at the top clubs in Spain or Italy.

If you sell Nasri, what kind of message does it send out to the rest of the team and fans? You finished 4th and your letting go one of your best players?

No idea, I'm surprised Chelsea haven't shown any interest tbh. Wouldn't want him going there, either  Hopefully Arsenal won't sell him, but then he'll be free next season and there may be more clubs willing to take him on. You never know what situations will be in one year's time but Arsenal should decide immediately not to help strengthen Man United this summer.

Cechmate, if Nasri wants to leave, the message will be clear : he wants more money. In that case, it's not so much about the club, more about the player. A lot of Arsenal fans are already p***ed that Nasri is demanding so much. Wenger will have to weigh up whether he's worth the extra. I honestly don't know, Nasri was our best player in the first half of the season, quite easily. But then he's not earned what he's apparently asking for. I think he's being greedy but if Arsenal want trophies he could be a big part of that, if he shows up for the whole season.

It is fair to say none likes losing their better players, especially to Man Utd! I don't want any players at Arsenal that are not commited so Nasri can go away, but I would rather we did not sell to Utd. If he leaves & we bring in Cahill/Samba & Hazard or Matta then I am happy still. I expect a big clear out at Arsenal this summer, but I guess this is not the thread for such waffle!
