Arsene Wenger was in denial last night after his Arsenal side were left humiliated by Manchester United. Arsenal conceded eight goals for the first time since 1896 but Wenger insisted there was nothing to put right, blaming the absence of eight players for the shocking defeat. Wenger’s side have just one point from their first three Premier League games this season but the Arsenal boss insisted he had no intention of quitting, despite such a woeful start. Members of the Arsenal board left Old Trafford 10 minutes before the end of the rout, unable to watch any more of their team’s shambolic display. And Wenger invited ridicule by claiming the 8-2 scoreline was not a fair reflection of the game, United’s win inspired by hat-trick hero Wayne Rooney. “No, not all,” said Wenger when asked if he had considered his position. “What is there to turn around? We have played three league games, two away and one at home. “We have lost two of them, but we have also qualified for the Champions League. The important thing for us is to keep united. “You always feel humiliated if you concede eight goals. It was a terrible day for us and we collapsed physically in the second-half.” Wenger, who is under pressure after selling Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, claimed that now was not the time to judge him or his team. “It’s very painful but it’s at the end of the season when you should make the judgment,” he said. “We had eight players out, United have class and they punished us. This game was not an 8-2, it was harsh for us.” But with the transfer deadline looming, Wenger indicated new signings could be imminent. “We have the money if we find players who can strengthen our team,” he added. “And we have 20 people working on that.” Read more: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Mamnchester-United-8-2-Arsenal-Arsene-Wenger-defiant-article792767.html#ixzz1WMt60ijO Sign up for MirrorFootball's Morning Spy newsletter Register here |

That's all from that classless interview Geoff Shreeves did at full time. Asked him twice was he quitting and if he thought his employers were thinking about sacking him. Bet he would never even think of asking Redknapp the same questions. Edited by DMC, Aug 29 2011, 12:25 AM.

The difference is arsenal are an established top 4 team spurs were floaters before Redknapp took over. Which is why I suspect he doesn't come under as much scrutiny as Wenger |

So he deserves no respect because Arsenal are an established top 4 side? |

Another perfect example. He was getting absolutely slated by the fans but you never saw them asking if he was going to quit or get sacked in a live interview straight after a match. |

Arsenal have had a net spend of something like minus 50 mill for the last 6 years and have been in the CL every season, only an idiot would think that isn't an achievement in and of itself. Stupid to say he hasn't been their best manager, do you remember what they were like before he took over? |

Since the Carling Cup final last season Arsenal and Spurs have had very similar (appalling) records: Arsenal: 5-8-8 Spurs: 4-8-6 But Wenger was repeatedly asked if he would resign after the Utd game while Harry leaves Whitehart Lane unscathed after a similar Manchester mauling. Does the media pick on the foreign manager? Are they afraid to criticise potential England coaches? (Just so the other thread isn't clogged )
