A very unconvincing 2-1 win over Thailand on Friday night. The Thais looked quite sharp and we were just so incredibly predictable with our style and approach so they knew what was coming and planned well to combat it. In reality 3 points are 3 points in World Cup qualification and it was the first match but you do expect more at home against one of the so called minnows of the group. Fortunately for us Saudi Arabia could only draw with Oman in Muscat. We're gonna need a much improved performance in the match away against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday night if we even hope to get a point. Saudi Arabia aren't the team they were 10-15 years ago when they were unquestionably the best team in Asia but they are still a strong side and our main opponent when it comes to winning this group so we need to up the intensity and play with a bit more speed and conviction I think to get something out of the game. If we win it puts us in pole position already to go through but I'm not counting any chickens before they've hatched. |

He replaced McDonald when he was pulled out with a hamstring injury. |

Good thing too because McDonald would never have scored that goal. |

Saudi Arabia tonight we'll need a better effort that Friday if we even hope to get a point out of this one. |

Hardest game run and won. Should be a doddle through to the next stage now. The only game that worried me was Saudi away and we've done it so easily. If I was Frank Rijkaard I'd be a tad worried about the Saudi players, they could only draw with Oman and then thumped at home by us. |

We'll cruise from here and I think once the season starts the Oman and Thailand away games should have more Asian based players, bank some good will with the European clubs for the final stage of qualifying when we'll need all our players on deck. |

Technically it's the 3rd round of qualifying for the AFC. There's 4 rounds all up plus the AFC/South America play off. |

There's only 2 group stages so yeah but it depends on seeding as to who we draw and I doubt we'll draw Japan this time around seeing as we're the 2 best teams in Asia. |
