I'm a naughty boy
Two quotes I have heard recently, both from English managers about tactics. I found them both pretty shocking tbh as I think it is a terrible attitude to what is a fundemental part of the game. It is important for players to be developed tactically too (something which a lot of English players seem to lack), do you think this attitude is one of the reasons there aren't more English managers in the EPL and English players are behind their European counterparts?

Redknaap:
“You can argue about formations, tactics and systems forever, but to me football is fundamentally about the players,” says Redknapp. “Whether it is 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, the numbers game is not the beautiful game in my opinion. It’s 10 per cent about the formation and 90 per cent about the players. If you have the best ones and they do their job, then they can pretty much play any way you want them to.”

Bruce: (Paraphrashing, he was talking about Utd)
"It doesn't matter what formation they play or where the players are positioned on the pitch it is all about the players"

Here is also a quote from VDV talking about Redknaap
“It feels like I’m back on the street. There are no long and boring speeches about tactics, like I was used to at Real Madrid. There is a clipboard in our dressing room but Harry doesn’t write anything on it! It’s very relaxed. The gaffer gives us the line-up 20 minutes before we go out to do our warm-up. And the only words he speaks to me are ‘You play left or right, work hard, have fun and show the fans your best’.”

most deff English players in general have a poor understanding of the game. they cant just go out there and have fun. then theres no discipline or thought in their game.

England's best midfielder for a few years in the national team is prob Gerrard (until Wilshere came along) and he epitomises the lack of understanding and tactical awareness which is shocking.

TBH i dont see much wrong with that'he's just saying good players can play in any formation,TBH i would be worried if they couldnt.

yoi have to have both elements. in the English comparrd to other countries we don't understand tactics. we only know 4-4-2 direct. need to adjust accordingly which english players struggle with.
