After West Broms poor start to the season started thinking about Roy, people have said he was out of his dept at liverpool but he was a good manager because of the job he did at West Brom. Looking at his stats it tells a slightly different story

Pl:20
W:6
D:7
L:7

And Di Matteo

Pl:23
W:8
D: 5
L:10

Pretty similar records and considering their next 5 games are Sunderland(a), Wolves(h), Villa(a), Liverpool(h), Arsenal(a) on paper they look like the would come out with a max of 6 but most likely 3-4.

So on his record whats everyones opinion on Woy

good manager

not given a chance by liverpool fans and was used as a scapegoat

every manager makes bad buys and he should have been given time

btw, i predict 8 points out of those fixtures

i cant see sigs B)

i honestly think, given time he would have turned things round

he needed to bring in his own players to suit his tactics

i'm all for giving managers time, but only if theres at least some little thing there that looks like it could change, with Roy it just didnt.

As I said, he had a defeatist attitude, it was horrendous at times watching him in pre and post match interviews, before games he spoke as if he had already accepted that the team would likely lose, that just can't be acceptable and I would challenge any teams fans to put up with it for any length of time. The epitomy of which has to be his comments after our defeat to everton in the derby that it was our best performance!

When he joined the fans were split on him but the vast majority still agreed they would support him, his buys were not great but then position of the club wasnt great either so we accepted that they were about the best we could do at the time. Some were ok and ended up improving, others were unfortunately not good enough but that had no bearing on his dismissal.

His tactics were shocking quite frankly as were his decisions during the games and I wonder at times if other fans actually watched us play or saw anything of Roy in his time at the club as its not hard to see the reasons for his dismissal if you did.

you see it as a defeatist attitude, i saw it as an honest attitude

the derby performance, i cant remember it or the comments, but shirley he has to look for positives out of bad results

i honestly think that the liverpool fans didnt give him enough time, thats an outsiders opinion looking in

i cant really remember liverpools tactics from last year if i am being honest, i have trouble remember things from a few weeks ago, it must be an age thing :(

positives out of bad I can understand but it wasnt our best perormance at all, it was rubbish.

Its not an honest attitude at all, and even if it was, as a manager who's job it is to try and instill belief in his team, accepting defeat before a game is not acceptable at all, I can't see how anyone would believe it could be for any sporting team.......

As I say, I have always been a one who has championed giving managers time but hodgson changed it entirely for me, to this day i am still quite shocked as to just how bad it got with him. Any other club with that happening would have done the same.

Hodgson got what he deserved at Liverpool. Managers liek him (i.e tactically inept) will always be found out at a high level. It is all well and good playing they way he does at small teams that will nearly always be the underdog and he'll get praised for that but he isn't a top class manager and will never be good enough for a top club.
