Aberdeen got a attendance of over 8,000 people tonight in their first friday night football, the 8,000 is twice their average attendance!

The worrying thing is though that 8,000 is just over a 1/3 of the capacity of their stadium. With Attendances like this will football begin to see a decline?

8,000 twice their avg attendance? Thats rubbish where did you get your info?
Aberdeens avg this season is over 9k which i would agree is down on their "normal" of around 13k. There is a lot of contributing factors for this, mainly the fans living in the past and expecting a return to the glory days of SAF. Another factor is simple cost of tickets with money much tighter for families. The decline of Scottish football has been a steady decline for many years now but was accelerated by Setanta folding and losing Scottish clubs their biggest income which was replaced by a much smaller deal by Sky & ESPN (similar to what happened to the Championship when ITV deal collapsed)
Last night was a trial match but was a poorly selected game as it was 2 clubs from opposite ends of the Country, if they had selected St Johnstone v Aberdeen or Dundee Utd orany of these clubs to play each other Killie, M'Well or St.Mirren then it would be a fairly local fixture without it being a derby and this would have given the idea a good chance to work.

I think a quick look at the squads Rangers and Celtic have are a good indication, average championship players at best going from 4/5 years ago when they had some really good players in their squads.

Talk of Rangers going bust which if it happens is the end of the league, as much as i despise everything about the club and what they stand for Celtic need them and Rangers need Celtic.

Really dont see Celtic returning to the form they had in Europe a few years back any time soon which is a shame because scottish football is generally really good even though its two teams that compete each year

The end of the OF would be a breath of fresh air IMO. They starve the other clubs of any income and a more competitive league would bring a load of stay away fans back. Plenty of fans I know refuse to attend any match involving either of the OF due to the offensive nature of the songs/chants they are forced to endure without the Police or stewards doing anything about it, the SFA have allowed the OF away with it for too long and should have clamped down on it by punishing them by fines then force games behind closed doors (no live coverage either) and then points deductions.

But at the minute there the two biggest sources of income in the league, setanta still shows the spl but it will only ever be the OF, without them i dont see setanta being bothered

My first thought of Celtic fans is them trashing Rugby Park after losing league title (twice they have done it) and all their sectarian & pro IRA songs they sing! Rangers fans no better with their shamefull sectarian singing.

I heard it looked better after they were finished

Theres also a very small line between rebel songs and "pro ira song", im not saying they dont sing them, im just saying not all of them are ra songs

Typical Celtic fan refusing to admit that they have a problem.
Both clubs are very good at playing the press game by saying the right things ie bans for fans etc but I know fans of both clubs who have been lifted by police and charged for sectarian chanting at matches, the clubs took season tickets off them but fast fwd a few years and when the demand drops for season tickets due to no league title for a couple of years the offenders were offered their old season ticket back!
