Carroll cost 35m. That guarantees he will always be in the squad as long as he is playing for us

Take out Cole and Terry and thats a really inexperienced defense, on the up side good to see some younger lads in there

Good to give some younger lads game time, in essentially a dead rubber.

this england squad shows just how bad english football is

Goalkeepers: Scott Carson, Joe Hart, David Stockdale

one decent keeper in there ffs. i remember when england had a wealth of decent keepers. carson shouldnt be anywhere near the england team

Defenders: Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Phil Jagielka, Phil Jones, Micah Richards, John Terry, Kyle Walker

baines is ok, cahill is average, cole is class, jagielka is hit and miss and imo has been abit dodgy this season, jones has the potential to be excellent but isnt there yet, Micah is WORLD class B) , terry is on the wain and walker is ok

Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing, Adam Johnson, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young

Barry, downing, Johnson, Milner, parker, walcott should be nowhere near an international team that has aspirations to win things. they are all average. young is only slightly better. lampard, imo, is a great player but has never really done it at international level

Forwards: Darren Bent, Andy Carroll, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Bobby Zamora.

now this is the weakest position
rooney is a great player, but england rely on him too much.
bent, carroll, welbeck and zamora are just not international class, infact they are all just midtable premierleague stikers who have a good scoring patch once a season

it breaks my heart to see a team so full of also rans when i can remember the halycon days of the golden generation :(

Harsh on Parker, he will be one of the signings of the season IMO

Hart
Richards Jones Terry Cole
Young Parker Lampard Downing
Rooney Welbeck

Would be the best team from those selected though I can see Welbeck being dropped for walcott and Young playing in behind Rooney(as they do at United :S )

i dont think so

i think Milner >>> parker

every elngland manager has thought that Barry >>> parker

but i think Milner and Barry are not up to it at the very top level

Parker just made a bad choice in going to Chelsea, then was in a terrible Newcastle side.

TBH I dont think the last few England managers have done well enough for your Barry > Parker comment to have any weight :cheeky:

milner is nowhere as good as parker. Parker is a very good CM.

complete gubbins

parker and Milner are very similar, with Milner being slightly better

Milner age 25, 19 caps
this season 5 games one goal 2 assists (league only)

parker age 30 9 caps
this season 7 games one goal one assist (4 games i the championship)

parker is an avergae player who stands out because he runs around alot, but he doesnt have good technical ability, this is the same as Milner, but Milner is better

disagree, milner is an excellent player as a box to box cm. he needs to be played next to a more creative midfielder though.

i think you are being a bit harsh with some of them. theres alot of young players involved who have the potential to be quality.

walker will be an excellent player, milner & parker are good squadies, young is showing his class at united imo.

Bent is an average striker but class goal poacher, welbeck has shown some quality in the utd team and should be given the chance to prove it, i dont rate the other two though.

also our two world class central midfielders are out or have been out injured recently which doesnt help.

annoys me when people constantly go on about the 'golden years', we have had some great players in the past and this isnt a great team by any stretch of the imagination but we have never been blessed with 23 great players in a squad really. think its time to face facts that apart from one world cup win, we have always been a fairly average international team.

the golden years were when we had Shearer Sheringham Ince etc... in the late 1990 early 2000 not the Lampard Gerrard era of 2004 onwards

Parker and Milner are slightly different players, I think they could work well together in CM but you would need a few creative players ahead of them. Parker would sit whilst Milner pushed on, but Milner would have the intelegence to sit if Parker pushed on.

I thought Parker and Barry worked well and allowed the players ahead of them and the Fb to be far more attacking
