I think it will be good for West Ham as well, re build the side with a smaller wage bill.

There has to be relegation IMO in the prem its half the excitment att he end of the year and what would be the drive to do better?

Talk in the papers today about scrapping promotion and relegation, what are our opinions on it?
Quote:

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson voiced his opposition to the controversial plans, said to be being favoured by a select group of foreign owners, saying: ‘There are at least eight teams in the Championship at the moment with great history. What do you say to those eight teams? They can never play in the Premier League?

‘It would be absolute suicide for the rest of the teams in the country, particularly the Championship.

‘The only place you can make money and realise your ambition is the Premier League. You can’t take that away from clubs.’

The warning over the contentious plots came from League Managers’ Association chief executive Richard Bevan, who claims American and Asian owners are keen on a franchising model.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Sunderland are in American hands, Manchester City are run from Abu Dhabi, while Chelsea and Blackburn also have foreign investors.

Bevan fears if more teams change ownership there could be a vote to abolish relegation, a move which would require the backing of two thirds of Premier League clubs as well as the Football Association.

Bevan said: ‘There are a number of overseas-owned clubs already talking about bringing about the avoidance of promotion and relegation in the Premier League.

‘If we have four or five more new owners, that could happen. You’ll find that with American owners and you’ll find that with some of the Asian owners. If you look at sport all around the world and you look at sport owners trying to work out how to make money, you’ll find that most like the idea of franchises. That would mean no promotion or relegation. That would not be good news for English football.

‘You need to make sure the FA is strong enough to ensure the principles on which our clubs are run. If I’m an owner coming in, I must recognise and embrace the history, the tradition, the supporters, the community, the philosophy of actually how this club should be operating.’

Stoke chairman Peter Coates, one of just ten English owners in the top flight, warned of the dangers of scrapping the ‘lifeblood of our game’, adding: ‘It would do immense damage.’
Fergie thinks its suicide. I agree. But according to talks this is where the EPL is headed with so many foreign owners.

Expect somebody to call for a draft to happen at the start of the season...followed by stopping every 15 minutes for ad's, the maybe having two teams one for attacking and one for defending followed by picking up the ball and eventually the Yanks have finally got use of the word football

the thing is most foreign owners will be interested in this because they want to protect their investment but its not them who first brought it up. if i am correct i remember reading something about phil gartside? the bolton chairman calling for it to be scrapped. to me it seems that chairmen know they will lose heavily from their own pockets if they fall from the top table

Is that what they really want? Thats plain wrong. I would be open to discuss if clubs should have to have suitable grounds & set ups to play in the EPL. Abit like when you needed certain criteria to get into the League. Anyone remember Stevenage for example?

aye they were not allowed promotion because of their facilities. its happened a lot tho that in the lower leagues. pretty sure a few teams over the past few years have had to upgrade their stadia or risk being booted out.

most championship teams tho have the facilities to play in the premiership, so i dont think that would help in any way tbh
