Another blackburn rovers i.e a team that comes from virtually nowhere and completely unexpectedly wins the title or has football in england changed so much that only the really top teams can keep good form up for an entire season ? |

Man City are doing now exactly what Rovers did in those glorious days. Oh and no, there will never be another Blackburn Rovers when those curry eating goblins have finished with us along with that haggis eating chicken of a manager |

Blackburn were very much the Chelsea or City of their time, Walker spent a fortune getting to them where they got. I don't know if it'll ever be possible again if the FFP's are enforced though. |

Changing my tune since 2008.

Yes we spent a lot. Important to remember that Walker was a lifelong fan and his millions were made in Blackburn, and a huge proportion of the £60m he invested was in the ground, training facilities and academy - when he died and his family decided to stop helping financially, the opposite of what he would've wanted, the club carried on operating sustainably and this would not be true of Chelsea or City. There is something of a legacy when, so many years on, chants of 'Theres only one Jack Walker' and 'Uncle Jacks barmy army' are the most common chants - doubt that would happen with any other owner of a club. Sure, he spent a lot of money, but it tended to be done quite wisely and he had a much closer relationship with the club than the benefactors we see now. Jack Walker will be turning in his grave if he can see what Venkys are doing to his club. |

"the club carried on operating sustainably and this would not be true of Chelsea or City." It wouldnt have been able to without the initial input & wouldnt have (as it didnt) have been able to pay high wages & pay the same calibre of players without his money. Chelsea & Man city with both be self sufficiant to the same extent now. Indeed if either of the owners simply walked away the clubs wouldnt have any debts & would be creating alot of revenue. Of course they would have to cut the cloth a little, but thats just what blackburn did. The only difference is the scale. Edited by Victor, Oct 28 2011, 09:24 AM.
