But isn't that taking advantage of something if the ref isn't saying not to? Look at the Man United v Arsenal match earlier in the season, for both of Rooney' FK Anderson was stood watch PIG to put him off. Unless the ref says you are in the wrong with these technicalites surely they're only playing to a strength they have? IMO whilst it may be annoying they're doing nothing wrong. |

Its perfectly legal to stand in front of the gk! In fact the foul is often on the fwd as a defender will come over and push him out the road, its more a distraction tactic than anthing else. When I was younger it was often my role at corners to stand infront of the gk as im sh!t in the air but it forced the opposite team to commit at least one defender to move me away from the gk as they get paranoid. GK's get too much protection and its time they got treated the same as everyone else. I applaud Stoke for playing to their strengths while staying within the law. |

I don't think Stoke are so bad. Sure, their football might not always be the most beautiful or pure to watch, but they have a no-nonsense approach which works. They haven't spent as much as other teams and remain competitive within the rules of the game. If it goes too far and the referees aren't giving a decision then whose fault is that - Stokes or the referees'? Same issue as players diving really... it is the fault of the referees. If a player can't get a free kick when being pulled by staying on his feet then he's going to go down. If a player can get away with something with no free kicks given, they'll carry on trying to get the most out of the referee. It is the referee's decision to do what is right and that's what they're paid to do. |
