Reports in the papers today he is considering retiring. Injuries have really taken their toll on him. I think if he wants to stay playing for United he will have to quit his role with England. Will be good for England to get Jones/Smalling in there now anyway. |

It's probably not a bad thing if he wants to extend his career to quit international football. |

Yeah retire, although I think he's going to find his United chances limited anyway. |

Dont think its his choice, not really worthy of his place anymore. Same goes for Terry |

Rio is still twice the player that Cahill/Dawson/Jagielka are so he should still be picked in front of them imo. |

Tough choice if you drop both Rio & Terry, but only due to experience. I'd like to see Jones & Smalling ASAP but I dont think they are ready yet. If all are fit & on form & play Dawson & Cahill or One of those two with either Smalling or Jones. Lescott pushing all the way as well. Edited by Victor, Oct 31 2011, 03:29 PM.

No he isn't. He still a better football minded player then these 3 but physically he's behind them now. I remember listening to the united, liverpool game on the way to city a couple of weeks back and actually hoping ferdinand didnt get sent off (over that tackle on adams) because I was hoping he would play. After his performance aswell I was right. He's now united's 3rd best center half. |

He is. It's amazing what a few bad games can do. He played well against Liverpool, fair enough he had a nightmare against City but when you read the game as well as he does, his loss of a yard of pace isn't fatal. Also, he's no slower than those three.. |

I completely agree. He was great vs Pool and holding the City result against him his madness ffs. City would cause any team trouble but when you add in our injury forced rotations and then Evan's sending off it was an impossible task. Slating him for that match is laughable. Yeah he's getting on and it's taking him longer to get over his injuries but he's still the 2nd best cb at the club and if he's fit, he should play. |
