but you do agree that ronaldo has a better strikerate that messi since they have both played in the same league over the same period of time?

so ronaldo has been better for the last 3 years?
so if a player scores more goals than other they are a better player? blimey i am learning so much today! thanks I never knew andy cole was so much better than zidane, but thanks to you i do!

To be fair Mc using Ronaldos games only in spain is a bit irrelvant considering he was playing in england before, not as if it was a sub standard league
la liga is a lower standard compared to the prem, you can tell just by amount of goals cronaldo scored, messi would not get over 25 goals a season in the prem :thumb:

i just thought it was a more reasonable comparison to make
I doubt it would be that low, but nowhere near as high as high as it looks like being this season. (you know their good when you consider 25 low for a player of his standards  )

Ronaldo plays wide of the forwards so i'd call him a wing foward but now Messi has become a 'false No.9' he is very much a striker and he is the central player upfront. Tbh if you watch how Barcelona play they don't really have a striker but Messi would be the one if you were to say they had one.
doesnt messi kind of play wherever he wants? seems to me barca just have a fluid front 3 that rotate. i have noticed messi is more central these days and villa is wider, but i'd hardly say messi is a number 9 as such, a false one? whats that then? does that mean he isnt one?

football these days eh? way to much FM & people claiming to know oh so much about the game.

messi is a great player (possibly already the best i have ever seen) & scored goals for fun. a false number nine indeed.
He plays the position of a No.9 but not in the traditional way which is why people call it a flase number 9. He will drop deep, roam constantly etc..... so he basically does have a free role but he is seen as a striker these days.

On a side note, i really hate the term false no 9, cant they call it a 6 or something, like in cards where you think you have a 9 only to realise the things upside down

So becuase you don't see it that means it doesn't exist? Thats nice.

Now there was a reason I seperated them so i'll give you another go at guessing why.

Wrong. The only fact is you didn't watch either of them last month.
The fact is the only game in La Liga that Messi was half decent in was on Saturday, the parts of the game i saw in the kebab shop, early on, showed him scoring a penalty and a tap in, fact is if Ronaldo had done that you would argue its only a penalty and a tap in, but with Messi it doesn't make a difference.
I've not said it doesn't make a difference so guesswork. Only game he was half decent in? You do not watch La Liga so stop guessing  You can play well and not score.
Im not guessing but i was wrong, he was also good against Santander, slipped my mind, apart from that he had a very very average month by his standards, Ronaldos wasn't even that great of a month but he was the better player of the month.

Out of interest, do they have a player of the month trophy in Spain? It must be amusing assuming it goes to Ronaldo/Messi every month.
Can I ask how you're not? I know you do not watch Barcelona. Infact I am always getting told to "shut the fork up" when i'm watching them by you, Joefoy and Moley.

I'm not sure :S

An out and out striker is really judged on the goals they score, assists are secondary to poachers of the highest order, indeed they dont think about options. they put the ball in the net (or try to) & then worry about options. players like ronaldo and messi are not as selfish as pure strikers, they score goals and also think from time to time.

or is that just pure bollox?

pens of course are goals, but they are easier to get & that should be considered. A striker who has scored 20 goals (15 pens) in 20 games shouldnt have the same accolades as a striker who has scored 15 in 20 with no pens
This is why many considered RVN to be a better striker than Henry, but at the same time to consider Henry the better player as he was a better all round forward.
correct, simple eh....

 If you say so. If you do infact watch it you'd know he wasn't actually poor against Sevilla. Barcelona infact were not poor. Varas just had the game of his life.

Lad couldn't finish his chances and bottled a penalty, reeks of a poor performance to me :fishing:

yeah i know what people & pundits say, to much time on their hands & TV time to fill.

basically he has a pretty free role up front, but that only takes a tiny amount of time to say & not 5 hours of typing replies explaining opinions and making up new positions

Its all dandy looking dangerous, but when you don't finish your chances like he did you're as good as a venom less snake.

One thing though David Villa (Even though he is playing wide now) is nowhere near the best. I kept thinking he would come good but this season even more so than last he has looked poor.

Messi creates chances too. He did that night and it was his ball to Iniesta to which saw him win the pen (I know winning the pen means nothing but if he was not fouled Iniesta was not missing the chance from where he was  )
