It's been reported that Frank Lampard is likely to defy a FIFA ban on displaying non commercial insignia on team shirts for the Spain game this weekend. I understand that Lampard is tipped to captain the side against Spain and has publicly spoken out against a FIFA ruling that would prevent the team wearing poppies on their shirts.

Good on you Frank! Although it will contravene the rules, I'd be amazed if FIFA tried to punish the team for showing public support for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

At a time when FIFA's public image is in the gutter, it would certainly be an own goal (pun intended!).
Trying to get an accurate picture of reality, even when that's unpleasant or inconvenient!

How is it disgusting from Fifa?
Its not some personal thing as part of a global plan against England. Its to stop nations changing at the drop of a hat, ireland might want to play with a shamrock on paddys day etc

Also its not as if its a national emblem its to remember the armed forces who died, which in england its grand at games but at an international level is going to cause offense

I'm going to have to go with FIFA on this as well (i'm sure they will be relieved to hear that). A minutes silence is being done and as they said, if you let stuff like this go through then every tinpot country in the world can be applying for all sorts of stuff they consider important. Have the players wear it on th training tops/tracksuits/suits off the pitch. Big fuss being made about nothing.

Well off the top of my head celebrating the british army on an international stage would cause offense to anyone from Iraq, Afghanistan, Argentina, Northern Ireland and a few other places

I don't think the poppy offending other countries is an issue. i just think that allowing that symbol means the door is opened up to a host of other things so its just easier to have a blanket ban.

I'm not getting into the political argument about the poppy symbol being offensive to the entire populations of half a dozen countries as that is just plain wrong.

If it's really such a big deal then just wear an armband with the poppy on it. FIFA are spot on imo, "special edition" international jersies shouldn't be allowed.

Well if perhaps you part of the family of any of the 26 unarmed people that were shot by the british army on bloody sunday may find it offensive

If they get offended by a memorial to soldiers (many of whom from their own country) that died in war, not a celebration of any war, then they are overly sensitive.
