Well if perhaps you part of the family of any of the 26 unarmed people that were shot by the british army on bloody sunday may find it offensive

Shame on you 'Londonderry Pele', for spouting your politics in the same sentence as remembrance.
You cant be f*cking serious
Retracted with apologies. Perhaps you might consider doing the same?
I already have apologies for misreading the nature of poppy day

i'll sit on the fence for this one. I can see where lampard is coming from and its good he's fighting for what he believes in. I think a lot of people will be backing him up and he's setting a good example being a role model and what not.

At the same time, i also think he's getting a bit carried away taking this this far. There's lots of ways to show your support for remembrance day other than wearing a poppy. Donate money, wear a poppy underneath your strip, draw one on your boots with crayon, wear one on your training kit etc etc. its not like people are going to think he doesnt do his bit or support the cause just because he doesnt have a flower ironed onto his kit.

theres not really a need for a song and dance about it. if i was him i'd say in an interview or release a statement saying i dont agree with it and i feel they should overturn the rule and leave it at that.
Sorry Mercedes, I whole heartedly disagree. You should never have to remove a poppy, an emblem of respect for those that have given their lives. It's not about politics, religion or even nationalism. It's about respect. We're often told that footballers are role models (I disagree on that front too), so if that's the case, what better way to carry the mood of the nation? Anyone and I mean anyone, who is offended by the poppy, have absolutely no understanding of its meaning.

What is FIFA actual excuse for not allowing this?

Fifa's rule states national team kits cannot carry “political, religious or commercial messages”.

As my post above states, they clearly have no understanding of the poppy's meaning.

Aye but it could still open a can of worms regardless of the interpretation

I have to say I'm shocked! When I started the thread, I thought that each and every reply would support Lampard's stance.

I'm currently shaking my head in total disbelief.

Why? It's not about FIFA hating the English or wanting to be obtuse about it. They simply don't want to have the possibility on their hands of other nations wanting some kind of one off shirt that could cause problems

Yes their interpretation of it might be debatable but on this occasion I think their intentions are in the right vein

I believe a minutes silence is happening? They are allowing recognition of the day

My disbelief is not so much aimed at FIFA, it's more aimed at the majority of posts on this thread.

My last post on the subject.

Anyone's posts in particular? My views are not about the day itself, I wholeheartedly support it but I understand FIFA's points, they haven't point blank refused, just a compromise. We will have poppies on the training shirts right up until kick off these will be worn.

They're wrong in that sense then as it's obviously none of the above. But then were does it stop - it'll open up a can of worms with interpretations etc being different and will only lead to trouble. It takes more than having a poppy on your shirt to show support, I for one understand what Lampard is saying but for reasons above I agree (begrudgingly I may add) with FIFA and their stance.

If anyone is offended for any reason by the poppy though that's a different thing all together and I hope that anything like that can be kept from the thread.

it's not about removing it. its about wearing something that doesnt have it on it. like i said, he can support it 100 other ways. i just dont think its worth the fuss.

oh i forgot a bit - "what better way to carry the mood of the nation?"

he'll be doing that when he's standing there during the silence. he can do it by donating money. he can do it wearing a poppy while training etc etc.
