I think the poppy has become too much of a fashion type statement. If it was such a big thing for the home nations why is this the first year they have made a fuss about wearing it on the strip?
I may have missed it amongst all thy hype but are the players and the FA/SFA/WFA actually financially contributing to the charity or just making themselves look like good people by wearing poppies?

As a former member of the armed forces Im fully behind the Poppy appeal and the work the money goes to do, I just feel it has lost something recently with the amount of people jumping on the look at me ive got a poppy brigade.

Well off the top of my head celebrating the british army on an international stage would cause offense to anyone from Iraq, Afghanistan, Argentina, Northern Ireland and a few other places
So what you are trying to say is it will offend you?

As we are not playing any of those nations i dont see where you are coming from.

First point is, rememberance day isn't a celebration of our army but a day to remember why we have the freedom we have today and the people who lost their lives making sure we kept it.
After Germany had taken England do you not think Ireland would have been next???

If you dont agree with the above then you are entitled to your opinion.

My last point is,

If you look at your TV remote you will see lots of buttons, some turn it up and down, others change the colour and contrast but there will be at least one that will turn it off and a couple that will change channel....you could always use these if you are offended???
Will be keeping Cech in my pocket for the next 3 months. Thanks Pedro :thumb:

Ordinarily I would but I can see the gist of where you’re coming from and don’t understand your point. The post I commented on is clear, unless you are/were being sarcastic in which case I apologise.

On a personal note though, I don’t care if Afghanistan, Argentina, Northern Ireland are/could be offended by the poppy, it’s nothing to do with them. The game is in England, played by England and last I checked we all still have freedom of choice (hence remembrance day) to switch it off should we choose.
As long as people don’t mistake the poppy as something pro-army and understand its true meaning there is no reason for anyone to be offended imo.
