I dont think Barton wasted his potential as such. I think he is as good a player as he was ever going to be but I agree that if it wasn't for his off field antics and his attitude he would be at a top 4 club and a regular in the England set up.

From Killie id have to go back 10+ years & plump for Colin McKee (signed from Man Utd with Neil Whitworth)
Was signed as a potential Scotland Int'l but he fell in with his old friends in Glasgow and hit the drink heavily and spiralled out of control.

To think at the time our manager Alex Totten had gone down to OT to meet SAF about a deal for McKee and nearly snared Paul Scholes for 500k instead. The story goes that Scholes was playing as a fwd at the time but not progressing as expected and Totten saw something and tried to persuade SAF to let him have Scholes instead but SAF said it was a good offer but he wasnt giving up on him as he knew that there was something special in there somewhere.
