There is a 4 page spread in the L'Equipe magazine on Arsene Wenger including an in-depth interview. L'Equipe lead the front cover with 'What is hard is the feeling that something is finishing.' http://www.lequipemag.fr/EquipeMag/Mag/flip/index_flip.html Wenger hints he'll soon quit. Asked by LEquipe if new long term project is starting: “No. For me we're now talking short term, it's obvious” "But whether it's with me or someone else, it changes nothing. My successor needs foundations on which he can be successful" Wenger asked if he'll stay another 15 yrs? 'Non'. Will you be there next season? "We'll look at things at the end of this one" He spoke about the departures of Nasri and Fabregas, saying it was ‘hard to take’ that players of 24 wanted to the leave club. “For first time I lost young players, who were reaching maturity. I suffered. It’s painful to lose key men you’d invested a lot in”, he said, and spoke suggested that bad results last season ‘broke the squad. They could have been extraordinary. I often call it ‘the season of the last minute’”. So it looks like there is a distinct possibility that arsene may walk at the end of the season, he seems a broken man to me and I can see why tbh. He attempted to build one last big team around cesc nasri etc and they walked and that killed the squad. I think he tried hard in the summer to bring in top class replacements but was left with the realisation that he could no longer attract the best to arsenal. I think this has broken his spirit. Theres no way wenger could have been happy with bringing in the like of arteta, benayoun, mertesacker, santos, they are not Wenger type signings of the past, anyone can see that. TBH I have been calling for his head for a few years now but I now realise I'd be disgusted and so disappointed for him to walk away at such a low point. I think if he does walk at the end of the season we could really really suffer. I think we would see the likes of RVP, Vermaelen etc look elsewhere, we would definitely struggle even more than we are right now to attract top class players and it goes without saying it could quite possibly kill our youth set-up. Thoughts? |

1. I'm hoping this isn't true, purely because there's no way he should be disrupting the season with this sh*t. RvP hasn't signed a new contract and the team is in the middle of its hardest fight for 4th place under Wenger so far. 2. It's not like Wenger to be so frank with the media like this, he's usually very cagey about what goes on at Arsenal. It's almost as if he's prompting a reaction from somebody, and with the transfer window not that far away, maybe this is a message to the board? 3. Every manager has to leave a club at some point but Wenger leaving now would anger me. He's brought the club down from the high he took it to and if this is true, he's decided he's not prepared to clean up the mess. He's created (or failed to prevent) a number of problems for Arsenal; problems he hasn't fixed. He's watched amazing players walk out and replaced them with players of a much lower standard. The team has a reputation for shoddy defending. We're currently relying heavily on one player for goals - a player who isn't currently interested in signing a contract and has a tendency to be injured. 4. If he leaves the club but not the game, I'll be leaning towards the idea that this has got a lot to do with the board. 5. He must know now who he wants to take over when he does go

clearly he has, spent plenty money, just because a team doesnt get 80m a season to spend doesnt mean he hasnt been given 'financial backing'. he clearly tried to splash plenty cash this summer but could not attract the players |

again it was not £15m up front, £12-£15m total which includes a lot of add ons but anyway ox is an example of the type of money wenger spends on a regular basis. we have seen the likes of vermaelen, koscielny, mertesacker, nasri, arshavin, oxlade, arteta all come in for over £10m. |

From that it sounds like he really is a defeated man, and he has looked like that at times this season. If he does feel like thsi then it probably best he does move on, however sad it may be. |
