Do you have to win things? If so how much?
Can this be done over a short period of time or can must you do it over history?
Can you be a superpower at the top table without being a giant club?

the real club in question here is Man City. To me they are one of the worlds most talked about & powerful clubs now, capable as any bar the real top 2 or 3 when it comes to attracting players &fo rsure they can offer more money than any other club. Does this make them a giant or just a megamoney superclub of the present?

City arent a giant club, imo it takes quite a few years to get there.

atm there are only liverpool and utd who are bigger than us but that isnt going to last forever

i dont really believe this

meh

top of the league B)

edit, City have more pulling power than every club apart from utd, and even that is debateable now

so imho, the size of a club doesnt matter, only the position they are in atm. ask a fan of forest where they would rather be

It's the Liverpool test, for me. They haven't won the league in almost two decades. They've had money troubles, management issues, owner problems - yet they can attract top players and managers.

A big club is a different thing to a successful club these days. With all due respect to City, they're not special on their own and they know it. Strip away the money fuelling the club and the world class players would be jogging on because the club on its own doesn't yet have what it takes to earn the kind of money to keep them there. Eventually they'll start making money but you can't transform a mediocre club into a giant club overnight. Any club in the league could be City, but not any club in the league could be Liverpool.

the first bit

liverpool have won quite a few cups in the last 20 years and , iirc, have only finished out of the top 4 twice.

liverpool have had it really tough

second bit is spot on, City got lucky and we are living the dream :balotelli:

Yes, I understand you are top of the league. Well done! I am not doubting what you are achieving now.

You have totally missed the point & it doesnt surprise me. I am not doubting your spending power & of course thats a massive part of pulling power. But quite often the dullard filthy rich guy doesnt get the girl :)

To be a true giant of course the size of the club & what you have won matters.

They havent had a massive world wide fan base, won the Champs League & finished runners up in it as well either have they. Nor have they won the Uefa, Carling & FA Cups... Let alone in the same year!

I kind of see what you are saying, as without real domestic success Liverpool have stayed at the highest level. But come on they havent had it that bad!

Ok if you aint dull you can be likened to that filthy rich old man J. Howard Marshall. Your the football club version of him & so far all you have hooked is a dirty old whore

Of course it doesnt bother you & nor should it. City are on the up & you are enjoying the ride. Fair play. I'm just asking if you keep going what must you achieve to really be up there with the very biggest

Some of the stuff people say about City does make me laugh.
During the late 60's early 70's we WERE the club to be at, played great football and were exciting to watch, with a had full of trophies along the way.
We had our moment....Liverpool did in the 80's & 90's....United have had the last 2 decades with a few Arsenal & Chelsea cups along the way.

Football has a cycle.

The Big 4 of Liverpool, United, Chelsea & Arsenal with Skys help have created the current situation. They made it impossible for smaller clubs to make it without astronomical investment....but now moan its not fair. The Irony

On Topic, City are not Giant but i think you already knew that, but imo we could be in the future.
Chelsea were a decent club but not a football Giant by any means. 8 years of RA and now they are considered a CL Giant by most....City can follow suit with a few years of consistancy imo.

Everything is in place...its now a matter of time and trophies required to decide if or when we are considered a Giant
Will be keeping Cech in my pocket for the next 3 months. Thanks Pedro :thumb:
