Topic title is a big vague i know. Read this this morning: ""Today Cardiff City football club were approached by the family of LCpl Scanlon QDG, who was tragically killed in Afghanistan earlier this week, to see if the club would donate a club shirt to put in his coffin as he was a massive Cardiff City fan. Shockingly, the club said no as 'they don't do that sort of thing'" I think its going round on facebook so some of you might have already seen it. I don't know if its been confirmed to be true or not yet but i think its making its rounds. Do we think it's harsh or agree with it? My first thought was...shouldn't he already have at least one if not several CCFC strip if he's a massive fan of the club? |

I don't think they should do it. If they want to drape something over his coffin throw the Union Jack over it, He died serving the Army, that's what normally happens. |

It's a bit tasteless that the family tried to use the fact he was in the army to get a free shirt I think.. |

I agree with Viva, if they say yes to this they can potentially be swamped with other people looking for free jersies in all sorts of hardship cases. On the other hand it's a PR disaster to say no. Lose lose situation I think. |

Oh dear. Just like the poppy on the England shirt thread, I'm more shocked by the responses on here than I am by the alleged response from Cardiff. Let's hope that this country remains safe from attack during the rest of your lifetimes. This young man has given his life so that you can continue to enjoy your relative freedom and way of life. The apparent contempt (or is it ignorance?) for all things military saddens me. |

What contempt lol. It's quite pathetic that his family would use his death to try wrangle free stuff from his so called beloved club. If they wanted to drape something over his coffin there's bound to be a Cardiff jerssey lying around his possessions somewhere....that is if he's as big a fan as mentioned. |

Do you not think that a shirt donated by his beloved club might just be worth a little more sentimentally than one that he picked up maybe a year ago. So no, not pathetic at all. An act of love by his family to give him a final gift that would have put a huge smile on his face perhaps? Edited by The Plastic Flag, Nov 23 2011, 03:56 PM.

Hardship stories? Fu**ing hardship stories?? If a line needs to be drawn at all, maybe it should be drawn at those who have died thousands of miles from their home whilst serving their country...... your country, you wretch. Edited by The Plastic Flag, Nov 23 2011, 04:01 PM.
