The reason that this instance is not 'just another death' is because he died believing he was trying to make your life safer...... and he didn't even know you. Whether or not you believe in his motivation for giving his life for you, he did it all the same.

He more than likely joined the Army as a career, not to save the planet. I guess people join the army for different reasons, family orintated, some just like fighting, some cant really get a job with any propects in civvy street & others just join for a laugh.

He died doing a job, thats the bottom line. a noble one perhaps, but a life's a life.

I have a feeling the subject is close to you & I dont want to cause offence or belittle anything you firmly believe in, I totally respect your view :)
talking about the planet....can environmentalists also apply? if its about making the world a better/safer place for us, then by the same logic....? :S

Yes it is Victor, so thank you for acknowledging that.

I don't expect everyone to agree with my views, my politics or my ideals, but it saddens me to see that people view this as just another work related death. Yes, he volunteered and who knows why he did - it could have been for any of the reasons you mentioned. But imagine the situation where absolutely no one did. No one volunteered to join the police, the fire brigade or chose to become nurses - after all, they don't have to, do they?

I for one, am glad that some do, are you?
Trying to get an accurate picture of reality, even when that's unpleasant or inconvenient!

Just a job?
If it wasnt for brave lads like him applying to defend Queen & Country then we would have conscription and everyone one of you would be sent to do this "job" that you belittle so much.

I have served my Country and am extremely proud to have done so, I feel appalled by some of the views on here in regards to this subject.

Only a week ago all of British football were crying foul over FIFA not allowing the home nations to wear the poppy, now we have a club showing absolutely no dignity by denying a greiving family the chance to give their dead son a parting gift from the club he loved.

How?
In so many ways.

For start people choose to wear the poppy as a symbol for all, with of course some taking it as a personal tribute. Totally different to a family asking a football club for a shirt.

But these clubs wore poppies on their shirt to show their respect for the fallen while all the country is watching but now that it's not in the public eye they just turn their back on the family of a supporter of their club who died serving this Country. Hypocritical to say the least. Did any of these clubs actually give any money to the poppy foundation to wear poppies on the club shirts? A nice act on the clubs behalf would to be to donate one of the club shirts that had the poppy on it and had been worn by his fav player.
