Anyone who rates Darren Fletcher as more than a squad player for United is talking out of their arse. He had one very good season surrounded by plenty of average ones. He'll be a good player to have back in the squad as he's a good senior head and 'gets' united and gives 100% effort every time, but he is not a great player by any stretch of the imagination. Anderson's good games (as rare as the are) are not of a lower standard than Fletcher's good games.

I like Fletcher, but he is absolutely not the answer to our midfield problems, and to expect him to be anywhere near his best after the lay-off he's had is mad. To want him starting matches after a mere 20 mins in well over a year is ridiculous.

I'm inclined to agree with happy, both have only really had one outstanding season surrounded by poor/average ones - due to injury as well as bad luck I guess.

Anderson in his first season was an absolute beast, much alike Fletcher in 2008.

When I went a lot I always assumed Fletcher was SAF love child as I could never understand what he offered other than being te same nationality.

I do hope both can get back to some good fitness as both would be very good squad players to have. However neither are the answer to our worries.

he's fat.

potentially a very good player but he's had 6 years to take his chance and never did

He's fat as fork.

Also SAF changed him from a very good creative LAM type player to a solid CM. Something which in his first season he took to like a dream.

I never stated I wanted him starting yet and actually said itll be a month b4 he is in that condition. He is a person who stays fit at all times so he was never going to require intense training to get back to fitness but match sharpness will require more work.

Utd need a no nonsense mid and a creative mid and I believe that Fletch will be the answer to the no nonsense mid

Yeh I'd agree with most of that. I still think the fact he "gets" United gives him the edge over Anderson who only "gets" fat.

I also don't for a second believe he's the answer to our problems. I've been waiting fecking years for Fergie to replace him. I think the hope regarding Fletcher from most United fans is one of a sticking plaster.

By the way until Carrick comes back, our best midfield pairing imo is Jones and Fellaini.

Fair play, Valencia had a very good game today. Just imagine how good he could be if he could actually pass or play a decent final ball.

He never was the answer to that before, I don't see how he can be after the best part of 2 years out of the game. I'm not too sure what you mean by no-nonsense but he isn't exactly a midfield hardman. If you mean a player with limited ability but tons of effort then yes, but if you mean some who can win a midfield battle on his own, then no.

TBH mate the truth is he was an AM. That was sacrificed to try and develop him as a box to box midfielder. He became very good at tracking back, collecting the ball, but he became hesitant in his passing, often taking too long to play the pass and having it cut out, and he never really got forward. Basically injuries and Fergie ruined him.

I've been on about a 4-2-3-1 while RvP is out so Kagawa sitting in front of them two with Nani and Jan either side. I think we just need a solid defence. A prime example is the Spurs game. We scored two but it was really our defence that forked us. Even against Everton we created chances but couldn't live with their midfield coming through. Consequently the seive like midfield is affecting us going forward too.

fletcher isnt our long term fix but he will do in the short term,he's more composed on the ball a better tackler and passer than anderson or cleverley IMO.
we need two new "class" CMs without a doubt.
