Definitely NOT a Terrorist
giroud is not clinical to be a top striker, he is a good player though

he is showing what he is, a 10-15m buy, if arsenal want to be a title winners, they need a world class striker leading them from the front

That first sentence doesn't make sense. I think you've misunderstood. I never said they performed better, or that they received less scrutiny? They are all comparable but they got a lot of criticism and scrutiny from fans and press alike. There are other players in the prem that get criticised (some always, others sometimes) but I'm not going to list them all, we all know them when we see them. Does Giroud - I don't believe so.

I haven't really seen an improvement with Giroud for the reasons I've stated in previous posts. He'll do well against the bottom half teams but I don't believe that's really good enough for Arsenal or any top 4 team. Another way to look at it is (having watched him over the last 16 months at arsenal) which clubs aiming for top 4 would he improve? :S
Perhaps I have misunderstood (or confused myself). Going back to the beginning, it just seemed as though you were suggesting that Giroud is escaping the criticism other strikers who are performing better get. I have to be really honest, I can't think of any striker performing better than Giroud who is receiving this criticism. If you won't list a couple, fair enough but it then seems an odd way to kick off a discussion.

Regarding Chamakh and Gervinho - Giroud's improvement has been a big part of Arsenal's start to the season, which for me sets him apart from those two players. Imo they were worse than Giroud has been anyway and deservedly received more criticism.

Giroud was cussed out hard last year, I don't think you can realistically expect the same this year though because he has been a good player. I don't think people expect much of him, he's certainly not a world class player but I think he did enough to ward off the criticism early on in the season.

I said he doesn't get the criticism or scrutiny that others get (some who perform better) but that was comparing to strikers around the league. Nevertheless I think all that is splitting hairs. Regarding Chamakh, Gervinho or any other striker, it isn't so much whether it is justiafable he gets less and they getting more, it's more the fact that he seems to get none. It's like he's completely overlooked. I feel he deserves to be scrutinised for what is a less than average performance as the main striker.

For same reason, I'm not saying he needs to be cussed out hard, but at least scrutinised regarding whether points have been dropped as a direct result of his poor performances. That's the key for me here. Imagine Ba was Chelsea's main striker or Welbeck was United's and they had the same results over the last 3/4 games, I'm sure they'd come under at least some scrutiny.

Ah, I knew there'd be a Man United player in there somewhere

I see what you mean but I don't see a lot of criticism coming from the press towards those players either, it seems to be from fans generally and where all three players are concerned (Ba, Welbeck and Giroud) it will be after a bad game and from their own fans.

This season Giroud's poor performances have coincided with a generally bad performance from the entire team so maybe that's it? It's not like he's being the sole letdown, so maybe that's why he's not getting that lambasting. I reckon if the team put in an amazing performance and he played poorly - not just a lack of goals but generally poor play - he'd get more criticism :S

Why wouldn't there be, they're still considered a top team and there's only 5 teams I can compare so he's bound to be one. Let's not try to turn my point into a United vs Arsenal thing here :p

I'd disagree there, those players and others get it from the press and fans (their own and others alike). Soldado, Defoe, Torres would also (although we can discount Torres if you like for the price tag).

ANY criticism might be a good start  I think your defence and most of your midfield have performed well which is why you are where you are. We'll agree to disagree I think, but there's just one important thing left for me to say....

Merry Christmas!!! :ph43r:

I'm not trying to turn it into anything, certainly not a United v Arsenal thing, it just made me smile.

Maybe if Giroud continues the way he's going, you'll see the criticism but it hasn't been that long since he was doing well and in that time, the team in general has underperformed.

You're not turning it into a United thing, but mentioning a United player among others made you smile? Ok. Now that makes me smile

Come on now, it was just a light hearted comment as you're a Man United fan and mentioned a Man United player, hence the ' '! Considering what I then went on to say and the fact that I made no comparisons between Arsenal and United at all I'm not really sure how you managed to gather I was into a United v Arsenal thing.

Torres looked up for it yesterday but the style didn't suit him at all.
