It's not the distance he covers, it how and where he does it.

He just jogs around aimlessly when Arsenal don't have possession. Looks utterly lost in that role. He should be played AM, Ox and Podolski either side of him and Cazorla sold to the highest bidder.
I wasn't defending him. People always say he is Lazy. He covers more ground than most in nearly every game.

We have the second best counter attacking player in the world and he's being played in a team based on possession. Walcott and Ramsey bring he best out of him and having Giroud is so frustrating for him.
He is lazy

Covering x km per game doesn't determine how lazy a player is. Just watch him when you don't have possession. He has no desire to get back, no desire to tackle, no desire to track runners and no desire to position himself tactically. Anyone can cover a lot of kms by jogging about for 90 minutes.

Ozil is all about Ozil. He has no interest in the bigger picture or the team as a whole and he's simply not the sort of player who can win a game by himself like a Messi or Ronnie. He needs to wake up or be woken up.

ok so a few things
1. We we're very unlucky, we're better team until the sending off
2. It wasn't a red
3. Ozil is a terrible pen taker and I knew he'd miss as soon as he stepped up
4. Ozil's attitude is a disgrace, his head drops as soon as something doesn't go his way and his defensive "work" is a disgrace.
5. Wenger is so forking s**t tactically, how ozil stayed on the pitch I've no idea.
6. Wilshere and Koscielny both have to take responsibility for the 2nd goal, what the fork were they thinking on that freekick at the end. fruit pastilles

Last night he was poor defensively and did little to get back but in general that hadn't been the case at all. He's not a lazy player.

Build a side around him properly and he definitely is the type of player who can single handedly win games. Germany and Madrid are counter attacking sides and that's how you get the best out of Özil. Playing with Giroud is killing him.

The first 20/25 mins minutes Sanogo, Özil and Wilshere were excellent. The posts about him stopped after that.

He's a lazy, heartless flat-track bully.

Of course it will help if you build a side around him to cover his deficiencies and to target his strengths, but that's not Wenger's way. He's not going to sacrifice his footballing philosophy because one player can't be arsed to adapt to a different role or system.

He makes Mata looks like Maldini in defence.

He started the game well, but that was because you were really going at Bayern and attacking quickly from the off. As soon as Bayern settled into the game it was a different story. Obviously missing the penalty didn't help matters but it's not exactly a one-off to see him completely fade out of the game as soon as things aren't going Arsenal's way. The attitude after the penalty miss was shocking too. A complete resignation from him instead of fighting to redeem himself.

Seems to have escaped criticism for the first goal as well somehow.

He's not lazy at all. We have built a side around him but like I said we've not done it very well. At the start of the season we were class on the counter and Ramsey would a huge part of that. I'd be interested to see Özils stats when playing with Ramsey. The fact is you buy the second best counter attacking player in the world (Ronaldo is 1st) and you don't play to his advantages is crazy IMO. He's still been our best player this season bar Ramsey. It's not just about playing on the counter though it's someone willing to make a run in behind the defence like Ramsey/Walcott would do and give something for him to be able to work with but instead he gets no support and is left with Giroud.

Oezil needs to be benched. Talent, tick. Effort, not so much. More is expected of him so he does get more scrutiny but that is because he is a world class player. No excuses.

I should add I missed the game so my opinion on oezil is based on general observations as opposed to last night's game.

He's been our best player recently. Would make no sense to bench him.
