Some absolutely shocking call ups there

Johnson, Cole, Cleverly, Lampard, Townsend, Defoe, Welbeck etc. What have they done to get called up?

There is soo much wrong with that squad its laughable.
Heard on radio earlier someone says its harder to get out the squad than it is to get in.

Jones & Jagielka are both injured.

RT are you happy with that squad? Friendly or not the squad looks a shambles imo. Id expect my manager to be picking close to his WC squad not giving last hurrahs to Defoe

I know we're lacking for CBs atm but why the fork are you putting 3 LBs in the squad?

Defoe is retired so what's the point? Cleverley is possibly the worst CM in the league. You could stick any player from the U21s in there instead of him and you've instantly improved the squad. Although Townsend can't get into the Spurs side atm you can't deny that he has added a lot of energy to the England attack. A choice between him and Adam Johnson and I would certainly rather Townsend. Sterling should be starting ahead of him anyway.

I can see Woy going classic 4-4-2 with Gerrard and Lampard in CM and Rooney and Sturridge up front. No chance it works. Sturridge will be terrible as usual for England as they don't play to his strengths at all. Rooney will have a decent enough game without actually doing much. Gerrard will pop a few quality passes around but will end up trying too many and giving it away. Lampard will take a few pot shots and not have the legs to get back in his own half. Walker or Johnson will goal hang and leave us completely exposed at the back where we have no CBs capable of defending. The ball will never be got forward quick enough for Sterling to use his pace in behind and even if he does we won't have anyone capable of heading a ball in the box. Townsend will dribble from his own half and be so far ahead of the rest of the team by the time he reaches the other box that he'll keep trying s**t pot shots and hope that one gets deflected in.

-----------Rooney-----------
Sterling--------------Sturridge
-----Wilshere--Henderson----
-----------Gerrard----------
Baines--Caulker--Cahill--Walker
-----------Hart----------------

That's what I would try to build towards if I was Roy. Enough ability to control the game but loads of energy and pace to focus mainly on winning the ball quickly and countering.

You need Sturridge leading the line and making his runs in behind. He is so much more effective that way. You've either got to slap Rooney on the wing to start with or take out one of the midfield 3 and put Rooney in the hole.

Personally I'd stick the fat forker on the bench and have 2 proper wide players like Sterling and Townsend. Main problem with Townsend in that tactic is that his passing is gash and I'm not convinced about his work rate off the ball to close it down.

Sturridge has been brilliant when played on the wing for us. Makes no difference to his play, puts more emphasis on him getting in behind than anything as he doesn't need to drop deep and link the play
