None of those players play as the furthest midfielder

And the attacking onus isn't on Henderson at Liverpool with Coutinho, Suarez and Sturridge in the team. It's a waste of a position for England putting him there instead of someone who is genuinely creative. There's no need for him.

You're not understanding the role he's playing.

Ok let's not play Gerrard either then as he plays the exact same role for Liverpool. Why include a player who massively compliments him and makes the role actually work for Liverpool? Let's stick a winger in there instead.

By the same token would you play Welbeck up front with Rooney since he compliments him so well? Rooney's best football in the last 5-6 years has been playing up front with Welbeck.

Henderson is closer to Cleverley's level than Chamberlain's.

If Rooney was the captain and best player, and needed to be played in a specific way to maximise his ability, and was showing that by playing that way he and a lot of his international team mates were getting results way above what was expected of them, then yes why wouldn't you?

Must be why I have Walker above Johnson. Or would have Walcott above Sterling then. FFS

Fact is you want a clogger like Henderson taking up an important position in the team because he's good at covering for Gerrard who is likely going to his last WC, instead of playing a genuine class talent like Chamberlain. Would you play Henderson on the same role when Gerrard retires?

If you made a scale to compare players like Welbeck and Cleverley to Barkley/Chamberlain, Henderson is on the side of Welbeck and Cleverley. Nowhere near the quality of player to be starting at the World Cup, especially when you look at the alternatives

fork it then throw systems out the window and play all of the exciting players. Wingers in CM and strikers as fullbacks.

I mean, why on earth did Brazil play Kleberson in the WC final in 2002? Why figure out how to fit their best players into a workable system. Should have dropped him for someone more exciting
