Ifs buts and maybes. We weren't good enough, the team takes responsibility, defensively we were inept, and we didn't take our numerous chances. If the ref does his job right If we don't miss chances. If the keeper doesn't make a couple of decent saves. If the fixtures were different and we faced Costa Rica first. It doesn't matter, its ironic that we are out in the group stages and yet its the first time in a long while that there is optimism for the future. |

England always seem to exit tournaments with optimism for the future ![]() Wasn't impressed by them at all. You look at Costa Rica and you realise there are no excuses. |

Who was optimistic after 2010? Or 2012? It was different, we lost 2 games that on any other day we'd have won, and i can't use Costa Rica as a marker, they played against Uruguay who decided to coast at 1-0 -and they didn't have Suarez- and an Italy team that arguably had one of the worst performances of recent times, if we'd have played the same Italy that turned up yesterday, we'd have won by 4 or 5, dismal doesn't do them justice. |

I said going into the WC that England would exit at the group stage and I also predicted no wins in the group (granted I predicted a draw against Italy and Costa Rica) partly because of your build up meant flying to Portugal - England - America - Brazil in a relatively short space of time and shoe horning in a few games which gave nothing but fitness to Rooney. Hodgson gave England fans their wish and named a young inexperienced squad which you all believed would flourish yet very little thought has gone into the dynamics of where eacj player fits together as too many want to play in a similar position to Rooney yet he is clearly undropable with his marketing value. To enter a tournament with only 1 recognised rb who everyo ne (inc manager) knows is awful is a cardinal sin imo. Even to take a young rb who has promise would have given options and possibly seen the emegence of a future mainstay |

that's the best England have got, Cleaverly wouldn't make the squad unless there was an injury or 2 7 of those players would be cut from the squad |
