GOAT.
|
Daily Mail are running with Özil was absent during Germany win and Mertesacker only came on to concede the one goal to Brazil. If an agenda has ever been clearer I've yet to see it. |

Klose became the top all-time World Cup goalscorer with 16 goals in just 23 games, surpassing the 15 netted by Ronaldo. The Lazio striker had already become the first player ever to take part in four different World Cup semi-finals. Brazil were 5-0 down by the 29th minute and are only the third nation ever to trail by five or more goals at half-time in a World Cup tie. The Selecao follow on from Zaire and Haiti, both in 1974. However, Germany set a record as the first side to score five in the opening half-hour of a World Cup tie. No World Cup semi-finalist had scored seven goals, while the only host nation to let in seven was Switzerland, falling 7-5 to Austria on June 26 1954. The last time Brazil lost a competitive match on home soil was in 1975, a Copa America tie against Peru, which curiously was also in Belo Horizonte. Toni Kroos scored the fastest World Cup brace ever, taking just 69 seconds to beat Julio Cesar twice. Germany smashed in five goals, but there were only 179 seconds between the third and the fifth, meaning they netted three times in under three minutes. In fact, they are the first side in World Cup history to score four goals in six minutes, from the 23rd to the 29th. Brazil’s worst ever competitive defeat was 6-0 to Uruguay in the Copa America on September 18 1920, but has now been surpassed at the Estadio Mineirao. The last time they conceded five goals on home soil was a 5-1 defeat to Argentina in Rio de Janeiro on January 15 1939. Brazil had conceded seven goals once before, when they lost 8-4 to Yugoslavia in March 1934. |
