I'd have given the handball, not a penalty for the Costa dive, and booked Barnes for the foul on ivanovic but then also booked ivanovic for playacting. |

Can you do that? If you think a player has been fouled, is it for someone else to decide how much it hurt?? |

Well it didn't hurt him did it? If someone rolls around like that there is fork all wrong with them. He let out a squeal, did 5 rolls then jumped up. fork all wrong with him. It is cheating, plain and simple. |

I agree mate, IMO it's unsporting behaviour to play act, irrespective of contact I'd book players for trying to get opponents booked. |

I agree too and my comment was slightly tongue in cheek, but there is a serious point to it. Nobody likes to see players feigning injury - even if it was a foul. However, if the referee believes a foul has been committed, he must also believe contact has been made. If he believes contact has been made, who decides what is an appropriate level of pain to be shown by the fouled player is? Is he allowed to scream out in pain? Is he allowed to clutch his affected body part and grimace? Is he allowed to lie still in the throes of apparent death even if just for a few seconds? If he's not allowed to roll over three times, how about just twice? No? Just once then? I want to reiterate that I dislike it as much as everyone else - even when my own players do it. I just think that the ref is powerless to do anything about it once he has given the foul, thereby accepting contact has been made. |

in the incident i was talking about, the referee didnt believe there was a foul and ivanovic kept rolling around until he knew he hadnt won a freekick he wasnt in any paid, so why did he scream out? thats right, he was cheating when a player is really injured, they never ever forking roll about. ever. if you are hurt somewhere the last thing you want to do is make it worse by rolling about. so one roll equals a yellow card, 2 rolls a red the ref is powerless at that point, as it is difficult to ascertain the pain bit, but the fa can see that there is fork all wrong with ivanovic and should go back and be able to book him, imho feigning injury is easily sorted, let play continue while the player is treated |

Yeah I agree. I was talking more generally than about the Ivanovic incident specifically. If no foul is given, then I agree there is scope to punish the player, however what happens if the ref has got it wrong and the player is in fact hurt? I'm not trying to defend it, but I do think that the ref is in an impossible position. Can you imagine the backlash if he ignored a player that really was hurt? The safety of the players has got to trump anything else that might be going on and so if there's a risk that the player is hurt, it is very difficult for anyone, the ref or anyone else, to make the decision to ignore it. I do like the suggestion of letting the game continue whilst 'treatment' is administered. |
