Wasn't he debating it prior to the England fiasco anyway?

Sam Allardyce has suffered his first setback as England’s new manager after Bayern Munich blocked the Football Association’s attempt to make Paul Clement part of the new regime.

Allardyce had identified Clement for a key role behind the scenes and the Bayern head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, was understood to be open about the idea of his assistant joining England during international breaks.

However, it has now emerged that the Bundesliga champions, preparing for life after Pep Guardiola, have told Clement they do not like the idea of him job-sharing if it means there are times when he is away during the season. Bayern’s stance is that Clement should be fully concentrated on one job alone.

Sam Allardyce has revealed that England were considering a surprise call-up for Steven Nzonzi before Fifa blocked the move.

Nzonzi was a serious option for Allardyce after the Sevilla midfielder contacted the Football Association to make himself available for international duty.

The 27-year-old was born in France but completed more than five years’ residency in the United Kingdom after spells with Blackburn Rovers – where he was signed by Allardyce in 2009 – and Stoke City. And with Allardyce identifying the lack of defensive midfielders as a weakness in his new squad, England explored the possibility of Nzonzi’s eligibility by taking the matter to Fifa.

But Nzonzi’s hopes of earning international recognition collapsed after it emerged he played for the France under-21 side seven years ago. Fifa are understood to have told the FA they could appeal against the decision, but it is unlikely to be successful.

Allardyce said: “We did have a call, and it would have been of interest for me. We did explore it, but it was impossible, and it’s dead now.

"Steven is very good, he never got the credit that he deserves because of his size. Being too big can be a hindrance to a footballer because [people] think their feet are not as clever and they’re not as mobile or sharp.”

Nzonzi joined Sevilla from Stoke for £7million last July but is being targeted for a return to the Premier League by champions Leicester. He has a €30million release clause in his Sevilla contract.

Success is winning championships. It is nothing less than that. And when you win a championship – and we will – success isn't measured or accomplished by winning once

Think that would have been a decent call actually. Bit unfair on Nzonzi that a call up as an u21 year old can ruin his chance at an international career

I swear other players have even played for other countries at U21 yet changed their countries later down the line

Every single one of those midfielders is better than Mark Noble. He's just a poor man's Jordan Henderson, having one is a good option but having both doesnt really make sense.

It's immense really. Minus Walcott and it really is the best collection of players England have to offer, pathetic showing.

It's about time a stink is kicked up. Fat Sam knows what he wants and won't compromise, exactly what England need - a solid structure for once.
